  1. 6. Difficult to read or difficult to solve? : The role of natural language and other semiotic resources in mathematics tasks

    Författare :Anneli Dyrvold; Magnus Österholm; Ewa Bergqvist; Johan Lithner; Candia Morgan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; mathematics education; multisemiotics; task text; difficulty; mathematical reading ability; matematikdidaktik; didactics of mathematics; Mathematics; Pedagogik; Linguistics;

    Sammanfattning : When students solve mathematics tasks, the tasks are commonly given as written text, usually consisting of natural language, mathematical notation and different types of images. This is one reason why reading and interpreting such texts are important parts of being mathematically proficient, at least within the school context. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Mathematical Tools Applied in Computational Electromagnetics for a Biomedical Application and Antenna Analysis

    Författare :Farid Monsefi; Sergei Silvestrov; Magnus Otterskog; Linus Carlsson; Jean-Pierre Bérenger; Mälardalens högskola; []

    Sammanfattning : To ensure a high level of safety and reliability of electronic/electric systems EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) tests together with computational techniques are used. In this thesis, mathematical modeling and computational electromagnetics are applied to mainly two case studies. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Some numerical and analytical methods for equations of wave propagation and kinetic theory

    Författare :Eva Mossberg; Alexander Bobylev; Giovanni Russo; Karlstads universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two different parts, related to two different fields in mathematical physics: wave propagation and kinetic theory of gases. Various mathematical and computational problems for equations from these areas are treated. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Mathematical modelling in upper secondary mathematics education in Sweden

    Författare :Jonas Bergman Ärlebäck; Christer Bergsten; Bharath Sriraman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate and enhance our understanding of the notions of mathematical models and modelling at the Swedish upper secondary school level. Focus is on how mathematical models and modelling are viewed by the different actors in the school system, and what characterises the collaborative process of a didactician and a group of teachers engaged in designing and developing, implementing and evaluating teaching modules (so called modelling modules) exposing students to mathematical modelling in line with the present mathematics curriculum. Sammanfattning : Algebraic equations and functions play an important role in various mathematical topics, including algebra, trigonometry, linear programming and calculus. Accordingly, various documents, such as the most recent Swedish curriculum (Lpf 94) for upper secondary school and the course syllabi in mathematics, specify what the students should learn in Mathematics Course B.
