  1. 21. Neurotropic influenza A virus infection in the mouse brain : targeting, persistence and functional effects

    Författare :Fredrik Aronsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Influenza A virus; nervous system;

    Sammanfattning : Viral infections of the central nervous system have been associated with sensory, motor and behavioral disturbances both in humans and in animals. An example of this is influenza A virus infection that causes acute respiratory diseases, which occasionally are followed by complications from the central nervous system. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Maternal and placental inflammatory biomarkers in spontaneous preterm delivery - Predictive ability, stability and neonatal associations

    Författare :Panos Tsiartas; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Preterm birth; Prediction; Multiplex; Microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity; Histological chorioamnionitis; Neonatal outcome; Cytokine stability; Interleukin-6 IL-6 ;

    Sammanfattning : Preterm delivery (PTD), spontaneous or iatrogenic, causes short- and long-term morbidity and underlies almost 75% of neonatal deaths. The prevalence in the Nordic countries is about 6% but it differs among countries. In the USA, for instance, it is around 9.6%. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Effects of Food Supplementation and Psychosocial Stimulation on Growth and Development of Severely Malnourished Children : Intervention Studies in Bangladesh

    Författare :Baitun Nahar; Lars-Åke Persson; SM Grantham-McGregor; Tahmeed Ahmed; Kim F Michaelsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Psychosocial stimulation; food supplementation; HOME; child-rearing practices; maternal depressive symptoms; severe malnutrition; Bangladesh; International Health; Internationell hälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Early childhood malnutrition is a global public health problem with serious short- and long-term consequences. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the effects of psychosocial stimulation (PS) with or without food supplementation (FS) on growth and development of severely malnourished children, quality of home environment, mother’s child-rearing practices and depressive symptoms. 4. 24. Infectious and inflammatory mechanisms in preterm birth and cerebral palsy

    Författare :Bo Jacobsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; preterm birth; preterm labor; preterm prelabor rupture of membranes; intra-uterine infection; intra-amniotic inflammation; interleukin-6; interleukin-8; interleukin-18; monocyte chemotactic protein-1; cerebral palsy; antenatal risk factors; chorioamnionitis.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: International studies of women in preterm labor (PTL) and preterm pre-labor rupture of the membranes (pPROM) have shown a significant association between microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity (MIAC), some cytokines and chemokines and preterm birth (PTB). These studies have been performed in countries with higher incidence of PTB than that in Sweden. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Influence of maternal allergy on the intra uterine environment and on immune functions of the neonate

    Författare :Ulrika Holmlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Allergy; CD14; cord blood; cytokines; human placenta; IgE; Toll-like receptors;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of IgE mediated allergic diseases has drastically increased during the past few decades and there is no satisfactory explanation. A family history of allergic disease is clearly a strong risk factor, bin in view of the rapidity of the increase in allergy prevalence environmental factors are likely to have played a crucial role.
