    Sammanfattning : Hemicelluloses are a group of heterogeneous polysaccharides representing around 30 % of wood where the dominating types are xylans, glucomannans and xyloglucans. Hemicelluloses complex molecular structure makes it difficult to understand the relationship between structure and properties entirely, and their biological role is not yet fully verified. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Anaerobic digestion in the kraft pulp and paper industry : Challenges and possibilities for implementation

    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Pulp and paper; anaerobic digestion; fibre sludge; activated sludge; condensates; bleaching wastewater; wastewater treatment; methane; degradability; nutrient recirculation; Pappers- och massa; anaerob nedbrytning; fiberslam; aktivt slam; kondensat; vattenrening; metan; nedbrytbarhet; näringsåterföring;

    Sammanfattning : The pulp and paper industry is a large producer of wastewater and sludge, putting high pressure on waste treatment. In addition, more rigorous environmental legislation for pollution control and demands to increase the use of renewable energy have put further pressure on the pulp and paper industry’s waste treatment, where anaerobic digestion (AD) and the production of methane could pose a solution. Sammanfattning : Measurements of process variations and particle morphology are widely employed in the pulp and paper industry. Two techniques with high potential, infrared thermography and microparticle characterisation, are mainly used qualitatively. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cellulose-fiber-based thermal insulation materials with fungal resistance, improved water resistance and reaction-to-fire properties

    Författare :Chao Zheng; Monica Ek; Dongfang Li; Lars Wågberg; Folke Björk; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; biorefinery; birch bark; cellulose; reaction-to-fire properties; fungal resistance; thermal insulation; water resistance; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : Thermal insulation materials made from natural fibrous materials, such as cellulose fibers, have advantages over others from a sustainability point of view. However, cellulosic materials are generally prone to mold and absorb moisture, and these have negative effects on the insulation properties, the durability of insulation materials, and interior air quality. Sammanfattning : Sweden is one of the largest countries by area in Europe, and almost 70% of it is covered by forest. These abundant forest resources benefit the Swedish bioeconomy, but the pulp and paper industry is facing the challenge of a decrease in the demand for printing paper due to a significant shift to electronic media; therefore, it is a priority to use pulp to produce alternative value-added products, such as thermal insulating materials in buildings.
