11. Union-Fertility Nexus and Fertility Variation in Sub-Saharan Africa : The Role of Marital Dissolution and Repartnering
Sammanfattning : The role of marital dissolution and repartnering in shaping fertility patterns in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has been largely overlooked, even though marital dissolution and repartnering are fundamental features of marriage dynamics in this region. This dissertation addresses this gap by using existing statistical and demographic techniques and developing new demographic methods to (i) examine the relationship between union dissolution and fertility at the micro level (Study I); (ii) assess the dynamics of union dissolution, including the levels of all-cause first union dissolution, the timing of first union dissolution, and the reproductive years spent outside of marriage due to union dissolution (Studies II & III); and (iii) analyze the influence of marital dissolution and repartnering on macro fertility patterns in SSA (Study IV). 12. Love ain't got no color? : Attitude toward interracial marriage in Sweden
Sammanfattning : This dissertation focuses on the geographical area of Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden, and examines the majority society’s opinions and attitudes toward interracial dating, marriage and childbearing. The dissertation is driven by two theoretical frames: the theory of race as ideas constructed through the perception of visible differences and the theory of prejudice and stereotypes. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The revival of critical interest in the writings of the early twentieth-century American feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman is linked to the emergence of a second wave of struggle for women's liberation in the 1960s and 70s. 14. "Wahrscheinlich sollte man reden miteinander" : Die narrativen Modi als Mittel der Gestaltung von Ehe und Beziehungsproblemen in Martin Walsers Novelle "Ein fliehendes Pferd"
Sammanfattning : This thesis is centrally concerned both to investigate the depiction of marriage and relation-ship problems in Martin Walser's 'Ein fliehendes Pferd' ('A Runaway Horse') while at the same time giving a careful account of narrative techniques (notably free indirect discourse) and shedding light on their function. In terms of method, the two-fold aim entails on the one hand a thoroughgoing examination of prior material on the novella and on the other a critical discussion of certain defining models of narrative theory – whereby concepts such as narra-tive situation, modus, perspective and focalization are subjected to fresh scrutiny. 15. Child Marriage, Human Development and Welfare : Using Public Spending, Taxation and Conditional Cash Transfers as Policy Instruments
Sammanfattning : The theme of this thesis is to analyze the impact of policy interventions such as financing human development (HD), tax reform and conditional cash transfer programmes, under the framework of growth and sustainable development. These policy instruments are evaluated through the application of both partial and general equilibrium models, and the last paper concentrates on developing regional social accounting matrices (SAMs) as a core database for spatial general equilibrium modelling.
