1. Spouses' experiences of living with a partner with Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the study was to gain some understanding of the lived experience of the care-giving spouses regarding their experiences of the manifestations of the disease, perception of their own health, the possibility of influencing the interpretation of the past, the present and future, outlook on life, surrounding contacts and intimate relationships with their sick partners. The spouses (n=13) of Alzheimer victims were followed with the help of personal interviews, diaries and telephone interviews during a two-years period. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Socioeconomic positions of individuals are clearly associated with the chances of living a healthy long life. In four empirical studies based on Swedish population registers, two topics are examined in this thesis: The relationships between different indicators of social position and mortality, and the importance of family members’ socioeconomic resources for the survival of the individual. Sammanfattning : What did a life with disability imply for individuals in a past society? Since disabled men and women have long been hidden in history, the aim with this thesis is to uncover them and their living conditions in nineteenth-century Sweden, represented by the Sundsvall region. The data consist of parish registers, which help to trace people’s life courses and the consequences if disabilities interfered with their lives. LÄS MER

5. Using a life-course approach to better understand depression in older age
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis aimed to explore the prevalence of depression, and to identify risk factors, secular changes, and consequences of depression in late adulthood from a life-course perspective. The four studies in this thesis were based on data from the H-70 study, the Swedish National Study on Aging and Care in Kungsholmen (SNAC-K), and the Kungsholmen Project (KP). LÄS MER
