1. Simulation model of a ship’s energy performance and transportation costs
Sammanfattning : Society faces a major challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to limit the effects and propagation of climate change. As the main contributor to global trade, the shipping industry adds significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions and must actively work towards reducing, or eliminating, emissions in a short period. 2. Usability in Transportation : Improving the analysis of cognitive work tasks
Sammanfattning : In most vehicle domains within the transportation sector, traffic is increasing and vehicles are becoming more technologically advanced. In addition to this, drivers are faced with conflicting goals, such as punctuality, maintaining safety, minimizing fuel consumption, ensuring passenger comfort, etc. LÄS MER
3. Framework for holistic design of ferries focusing on lightweight ice going hulls
Sammanfattning : Waterborne public transportation (WPT) is slowly increasing in importance as an active component of public transportation networks in cities. City planners are looking at WPT to overcome urban congestion and pollution. LÄS MER
4. Life Cycle Assessment of Present and Future Marine Fuels
Sammanfattning : Interest in new fuels for marine propulsion is growing, mainly as a result of stricter environmental regulations but also due to increased attention to air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and the uncertainty of future oil supply. Several different fuels and exhaust abatement technologies are proposed for marine transportation, all of which have different advantages and disadvantages in relation to the environment and human health. 5. Measurements and Prediction of Friction Drag of Rough Surfaces
Sammanfattning : Owing to the increased sea transportation of goods, the environmental impacts of this activity are becoming more and more important, since a ship experiences resistance that directly affects its performance and fuel consumption. The growth of marine organisms (fouling) on ship hulls increases the roughness of the hull surface, which in turn causes a rise in ship resistance with a consequent increase in fuel consumption and greenhouse emissions of up to 40%.
