  1. 1. The Character of the Particle Emissions from Possible Future Marine Fuels in SOx ECAs

    Författare :Maria Anderson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heavy fuel oil; emission factor; marine fuel; black carbon; marine diesel oil; LNG; ship emission; liquefied natural gas; nanoparticle;

    Sammanfattning : Particles in the ambient air come from both natural and anthropogenic sources. One anthropogenic source is combustion of fossil fuels. The awareness of these particles impact on human health and climate has increased the interest for the particle emissions from e.g. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Full Cycle Engine Simulations with Detailed Chemistry

    Författare :Adina Gogan; Värmeöverföring; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasmas; Gaser; Gases; fluid dynamics; aktuariematematik; programmering; operationsanalys; Statistik; actuarial mathematics; programming; operations research; Statistics; detailed kinetics; emissions; engine knock; autoignition; modeling; spark ignition engine; diesel engine; fluiddynamik; plasma; Technological sciences; Teknik; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; stochastic reactor model;

    Sammanfattning : The modeling work developed in this thesis can be divided in two main areas of investigations: autoignition related to spark ignition engine and combustion and emissions formation in relation to diesel engines. A first version of a detailed kinetics engine simulation program, extended to handle full cycle calculations, was employed in order to demonstrate the strong effect that nitric oxide from the residual gas has on the autoignition onset. 3. 3. Evaluation of a Variable Nozzle Turbine Turbocharger on a Diesel Engine under Steady and Transient Conditions

    Författare :Ralf Barkhage; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diesel engine; emissions; transient operation; control system; fuel economy; variable geometry turbocharging; engine performance; variable nozzle turbine; supercharging;

    Sammanfattning : The growing global call for reduced emissions and fuel consumption together with the market call for engines with higher power density and application-oriented torque curves can be met using turbochargers with variable geometry turbines (VGT). The second generation of VGT turbochargers is currently being developed and is starting to appear on the market. LÄS MER

  4. 4. In-Nozzle Flow, Spray and Combustion Investigations of Two-Stroke Marine Diesel Engine Fuel Injectors

    Författare :Reto Balz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spray morphology; marine Diesel engine; fuel injection; in-nozzle flow; combustion; cavitation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the experimental studies of the cavitating in-nozzle flow of large two-stroke marine Diesel engine fuel injector nozzles and how it affects the spray morphology and combustion behaviour.  To further increase the efficiency of large two-stroke marine Diesel engines, a better understanding of the fuel spray atomization process is necessary. 5. 5. Advancing the understanding of pilot ignition in dual fuel engines : Experimental and conceptual studies

    Författare :Menno Merts; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Combustion engines; Dual fuel; RCCI; Pilot injection; renewable fuels; Conceptual model; LTC; Heavy duty; Marine; Start of combustion; Optical engine research;

    Sammanfattning : The energy transition is looking for new technologies to reduce CO2 emissions. One of the promising options is the dual fuel engine. In this concept, based on a diesel engine, a small pilot diesel injection is used to ignite a second fuel. LÄS MER
