  1. 21. Element transport in aquatic ecosystems – Modelling general and element-specific mechanisms

    Författare :Lena Konovalenko; Clare Bradshaw; Ulrik Kautsky; Linda Kumblad; Dan Baird; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radionuclides; elements; concentration ratio; bioaccumulation; biomagnification; fish; modelling; aquatic food web; ecosystem; Cs; Sr; environmental risk assessment; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Radionuclides are widely used in energy production and medical, military and industrial applications. Thus, understanding the behaviour of radionuclides which have been or may be released into ecosystems is important for human and environmental risk assessment. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Participation and Legitimacy : Actor Involvement for Nature Conservation

    Författare :Linn Rabe; Magnus Boström; Fred Saunders; Svein Jentoft; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Participation; legitimacy; multi-level; governance; actor involvement; marine protected areas; coastal management; public consultation; locals; nature resource conflict; public-private relations; HELCOM; Baltic Sea; Sweden; Deltagande; samråd; naturvård; miljöskydd; samhällsstyrning; länsstyrelse; naturreservat; marin förvaltning; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis in environmental science aims to contribute to the theoretical and empirical understanding of the relation between participation and legitimacy in multi-level environmental governance.It is widely assumed that actor involvement has great potential to improve the legitimacy of nature conservation through long-term acceptance and target achievement. 3. 23. Sediment remediation using activated carbon: amending knowledge gaps

    Författare :Robert A. Rämö; Jonas S. Gunnarsson; Agnes M. L. Karlson; Francisco J. A. Nascimento; Barbara Beckingham; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sediment contamination; sediment remediation; sorbent amendment; activated carbon; benthic community; macroinvertebrates; Baltic Sea; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many coastal sediments have accumulated large quantities of contaminants from past anthropogenic activities and now act as a secondary emission source of legacy pollutants to coastal ecosystems. New sediment remediation strategies are needed to address widespread sediment pollution. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Bioaccumulation and biological effects of organic contaminants in Icelandic coastal waters

    Författare :Halldóra Skarphéđinsdóttir; Åke Granmo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Miljögifter; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies on organic contamination from both diffuse and point sources in Icelandic waters are presented. The aim was to investigate bioaccumulation and biological effects of the contaminants or biomarkers, and their applicability in environmental marine coastal monitoring, especially in areas with moderate or low levels of contamination such as Iceland. 5. 25. DISCO - Drivers and Impacts of Coastal Ocean Acidification

    Författare :Laurie Charrieau; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coastal ocean acidification; Foraminifera; Environmental changes; pH; Salinity;

    Sammanfattning : Ocean acidification, mainly attributed to the increasing anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere, is characterised by a lowering pH together with a shift in the sea water carbonate chemistry toward lower concentration of carbonate ions. On the coasts, where the environmental variability is high due to natural and human impacts, ocean acidification mainly affects the frequency, magnitude, and duration of lower pH and lower calcium carbonate saturation events.
