1. Pharmacology of Palmitoylethanolamide and Related Compounds
Sammanfattning : Anandamide (AEA) is an endogenous fatty acid which activates the same cannabinoid receptors as ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive substance in marijuana. In vivo, anandamide exerts a number of actions including effects upon pain and inflammation. LÄS MER
2. Endocannabinoids and N-acylethanolamines in translational pain research : from monoacylglycerol lipase to muscle pain
Sammanfattning : In the early nineties cannabinoid receptors, the main target for Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of marijuana were identified. Shortly after their endogenous ligands, N-arachidonoylethanolamine (anandamide, AEA) and 2-diacylglycerol (2-AG) were characterized. LÄS MER
3. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor and endocannabinoid functions in gabaergic interneuron development
Sammanfattning : Formation of the cerebral cortex is controlled by tightly regulated processes: the proliferation and survival decisions of neural progenitors, radial and tangential migration of neuronal precursors, axon guidance and dendritic growth underpinning the formation of synapses. Patterning of the neocortex has been extensively studied and significant progress has been made in understanding the principles of cortical neuronal circuit formation. LÄS MER
4. Neurobiological effects of early life cannabis exposure in relation to the gateway hypothesis
Sammanfattning : The use of Cannabis sativa preparations, such as hashish and marijuana, is wide-spread among young people, including pregnant women. Despite this concern, the consequences of cannabis exposure on the brain during periods of active brain development, such as the prenatal phase and adolescence, is not well known. LÄS MER
5. In vivo imaging of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor using positron emission tomography
Sammanfattning : The actions of marijuana (cannabis) are mediated by receptors (primarily the cannabinoid CB1 receptor) that have unusually high density and wide distribution in brain. In addition to mediating the effects of exogenous drugs like cannabis, these receptors also receive signals from endogenous cannabinoids (endocannabinoids), which modulate the release of several other neurotransmitters.
