  1. 1. Marginally hydrophobic transmembrane α-helices shaping membrane protein folding

    Författare :Tuuli Minttu Virkki de Marothy; Arne Elofsson; William Dowhan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein folding; hydrophobicity; translocon; transmembrane helix; marginally hydrophobic transmembrane helices; orientational preference; positive inside rule; aquaporin 1; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Most membrane proteins are inserted into the membrane co-translationally utilizing the translocon, which allows a sufficiently long and hydrophobic stretch of amino acids to partition into the membrane. However, X-ray structures of membrane proteins have revealed that some transmembrane helices (TMHs) are surprisingly hydrophilic. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Intra- and intermolecular interactions in proteins : Studies of marginally hydrophobic transmembrane alpha-helices and protein-protein interactions

    Författare :Linnea E Hedin; Arne Elofsson; Susana Cristobal; Ismael Mingarro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane proteins; membrane insertion; marginally hydrophobic helix; hydrophobicity; protein-protein interactions; LacY; GltPh; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Most of the processes in a living cell are carried out by proteins. Depending on the needs of the cell, different proteins will interact and form the molecular machines demanded for the moment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Insane in the membrane: : Insertion of marginally hyrdophobic transmembrane helices and global analysis of membrane protein topology

    Författare :Daniel Nilsson; Arne Elofsson; Susanna Törnroth Horsefield; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are responsible for carrying out most of the tasks in a living cell; transcription, translation, replication, movement, catalysis and communication to mention a few. A subset of proteins is the integral membrane proteins, IMPs, which play an important role in governing communication across membranes, whether it is the plasma membrane or an organelle membrane. 4. 4. Topology Prediction of α-Helical Transmembrane Proteins

    Författare :Christoph Peters; Arne Elofsson; Pier Martelli; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins fulfil a number of tasks in cells, including signalling, cell-cell interaction, and the transportation of molecules. The prominence of these tasks makes membrane proteins an important target for clinical drugs. LÄS MER
