    Sammanfattning : This thesis has three self-contained articles.Economic growth and trade in human capital: A salient empirical pattern in the East Asian “miracle” is a large increase in output and factor accumulation despite  only a modest increase in TFP.     Sammanfattning : This study shows that the mechanisms behind knowledge accumulation and the sources of productivity growth differ from industry to industry depending on what is produced and what technology is used. Although it is apparent to most researchers in the field that the only way to explain long-run growth in output per capita is through technological progress and accumulation of knowledge that counteract the dampening effect of diminishing returns, we are still in the dark about how such mechanisms operate.     Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the dynamics and investment behavior of Ethiopian manufacturing firms in post-reform period using establishment level industrial census panel data from 1996 to 2003. Three related topics such as firm turnover and productivity differentials, determinants of firm growth, and the effect of adjustment cost and irreversibility on firm investment decisions are investigated empirically.
