21. Interactions between neural retina, retinal epithelium and choroid
Sammanfattning : The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a non-replicating monolayer that plays a key role nursing the photoreceptors of the neural retina, regulating fluid movement within the subretinal space, maintaining a basal laminar layer of Bruch s membrane, and influencing the choriocapillaris. This project investigates how surgical manipulation of the retinal epithelial layer influences the neural retina, the choroid and the epithelial layer itself. LÄS MER
22. Expansion and genetic modification of human natural killer cells for adoptive immunotherapy of cancer
Sammanfattning : A century after the initial proposition that the immune system has the capacity to fight against tumors, evading destruction by immune cells is now well recognized as a hallmark of cancer. Recent decades have witnessed extraordinary improvements in the use of immunotherapy against malignancies and adoptive transfer of Natural Killer (NK) cells stands among promising tools in the fight against cancer. 23. Emotion Regulation in Pain : Developing Effective Interventions for Patients with Pain and Emotional Distress
Sammanfattning : Chronic pain and emotional problems are common, often co-occur, and result in substantial suffering and social costs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a family of treatments that have been extensively studied and has empirical support for its effectiveness in treating both conditions. LÄS MER
24. Hox transcription factors in hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : Hematopoiesis is a lifelong, dynamic process in which a small number of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) residing in the bone marrow (BM) give rise to billions of mature blood cells of both myeloid and lymphoid origin each day. This enormous capacity of HSC has been utilized in BM transplantations for 4 decades and is also very important for future gene therapy. LÄS MER
25. Beyond scattering – what more can be learned from pulsed keV ion beams?
Sammanfattning : Interactions of energetic ions with matter govern processes as diverse as the influence of solar wind, hadron therapy for cancer treatment and plasma-wall interactions in fusion devices, and are used for controlled manipulation of materials properties as well as analytical methods. The scattering of ions from target nuclei and electrons does not only lead to energy deposition, but can induce the emission of different secondary particles including electrons, photons, sputtered target ions and neutrals as well as nuclear reaction products.
