11. Fractal superconducting resonators for the interrogation of two-level systems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we use high-Q superconducting thin-film microwave resonators to interact with several types of quantum mechanical two-level systems. Such a resonator is used as the central building block in a cryogenic near-field scanning microwave microscope (NSMM) to reach a completely new regime of NSMM operation. LÄS MER
12. Electron Donor Systems in Natural and Artificial Photosynthesis
Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is the process by which light energy is converted into chemical products, in photoautotrophic bacteria, algae and plants. The principal idea is the production of reducing agents by photo-induced oxidation of a sacrificial electron donor. LÄS MER
13. Thermodynamic investigation of systems related to TWIP steels
Sammanfattning : The world is facing serious challenges regarding environmental issues. Carbon dioxide levels increase every day. In an attempt to decrease carbon emissions the automotive industry searches for lighter, stronger materials. TWinning Induced Plasticity (TWIP) steels show an impressive combination of strength and ductility. LÄS MER
14. Water splitting in natural and artificial photosynthetic systems
Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is the unique biological process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, for example sugars, using the energy of sunlight. Thereby solar energy is converted into chemical energy. Nearly all life depends on this reaction, either directly, or indirectly as the ultimate source of their food. LÄS MER
15. Thermodynamic investigations of transition metal systems containing coabon and nitrogen
Sammanfattning : In view of the important applications of carbides and carbo-nitrides of transition metals in the heat-resistant and hard materials industries, the thermodynamic activities of Cr and Mn in the Cr-C, Fe-Cr-C, Mn-Ni-C and Mn-Ni-C-N systems have been studied in the present work by the use of the galvanic cell technique. CaF2single crystals were used as the solid electrolyte. LÄS MER
