  1. 1. Computer-aided detection and novel mammography imaging techniques

    Författare :Hans Bornefalk; Mats Danielsson; Robert Nishikawa; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; computer-aided detection; FROC; mammography; optimal operating points; single-shot dual-energy imaging; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents techniques constructed to aid the radiologists in detecting breast cancer, the second largest cause of cancer deaths for western women. In the first part of the thesis, a computer-aided detection (CAD) system constructed for the detection of stellate lesions is presented. LÄS MER

    Författare :Bengt Hemdal; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; optically stimulated luminescence; radioluminescence; in vivo dosimetry; dose reduction; dose protocol; average glandular dose; absorbed dose; Breast cancer; mammography; Monte Carlo; image quality; image quality criteria; contrast-detail phantom;

    Sammanfattning : Mammography refers to the X-ray examination of the human breast, and is considered the single most important diagnostic tool in the early detection of breast cancer, which is by far the most common cancer among women. There is good evidence from clinical trials, that mammographic screening can reduce the breast cancer mortality with about 30%. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of the effectiveness of mammography screening in Northern Sweden

    Författare :Pál Bordás; Per Lenner; Håkan Jonsson; Lennarth Nyström; Edward Azavedo; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Service screening with mammography was implemented in Northern Sweden between 1989 and 1998, covering 190,000 women aged 40-74 years constituting the target population in the area. The aim of this thesis was the evaluation of mammography screening in Northern Sweden with special focus on selected screening performance indicators and on the disease outcome. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Digital Mammography with a Photon Counting Detector in a Scanned Multislit Geometry

    Författare :Magnus Åslund; Mats Danielsson; Ehsan Samei; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; mammography; digital; photon counting; scanning; detective quantum effciency; scattered radiation; automatic exposure control; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Mammography screening aims to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by early detection of the disease, which is one of the leading causes of deaths for middle aged women in the western world. The risk from the x-ray radiation in mammography is relatively low but still a factor in the benefit-risk ratio of screening. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterization and Optimization of Silicon-strip Detectors for Mammography and Computed Tomography

    Författare :Han Chen; Mats Danielsson; cheng xu; Andrew Maidment; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : The goal in medical x-ray imaging is to obtain the image quality requiredfor a given detection task, while ensuring that the patient dose is kept as lowas reasonably achievable. The two most common strategies for dose reductionare: optimizing incident x-ray beams and utilizing energy informationof transmitted beams with new detector techniques (spectral imaging). LÄS MER
