  1. 21. Clinical potential of the mTOR effectors S6K1, S6K2 and 4EBP1 in breast cancer

    Författare :Elin Karlsson; Olle Stål; Anna-Lotta Hallbeck; Patrik Lundström; Catharina Larsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The prognosis of patients diagnosed with breast cancer has been considerably improved in the latest 25 years, as a result of continuous development of diagnostics and treatment regimens. Though, tumour diseases, for woman mainly lung cancer and breast cancer, still constitute of the most common causes of death in developed countries, following heart diseases. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Mesenchymal stem cells in vascular structure and remodeling in cancer

    Författare :Ewa Kurzejamska; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are present in vascular structure and play an important role in vessel remodeling in normal, as well as pathological conditions, such as transplant arteriosclerosis or tumor angiogenesis. Moreover, MSCs affect tumor growth and metastasis by production of chemokines, such as (C-C motif) ligand 7 (CCL7). LÄS MER

  3. 23. Prolactin receptor expression and prolactin-mediated effects in adipose tissue

    Författare :Charlotte Ling; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adipose tissue; prolactin receptor; SOCS; leptin; resistin; lipoprotein lipase;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of functional prolactin receptors (PRLRs) in white adipose tissue of mice and humans, and the possible functions mediated via PRLRs. In mouse white adipose tissue, three PRLR mRNA isoforms, L-, S2-, and S3-PRLR, and L-PRLR protein expression were detected. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Women have a 10% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer, and the disease has surpassed lung cancer as the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer in the world. Breast cancer originates in the epithelial cells of the mammary gland and tumor cells have undergone a series of genetic and phenotypic changes that confer tumor promoting properties. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Elucidating the role of 17β hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 14 in normal physiology and in breast cancer

    Författare :Tove Sivik; Agneta Jansson; Olle Stål; Lars-Arne Haldosén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Oestrogens play key roles in the development of the majority of breast tumours, a fact that has been exploited successfully in treating breast cancer with tamoxifen, which is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator. In post-menopausal women, oestrogens are synthesised in peripheral hormone-target tissues from adrenally derived precursors. LÄS MER
