  1. 1. Male Subfertility and Prostate Cancer Risk: Epidemiological and Genetic Studies

    Författare :Yasir Ruhayel; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytoplasmic and nuclear; Receptors; Prostatic neoplasms; genetic; Polymorphism; male; Infertility; Hypogonadism; Genetic association studies; Case–control studies; Androgens;

    Sammanfattning : Androgen action plays a pivotal role in male reproductive tract physiology and pathology. The androgen receptor (AR) gene harbors two codon repeat tracts: the CAG and GGN repeats, encoding corresponding amino acid sequences of variable length; the polyglutamine and polyglycine stretches, respectively. 2. 2. Selection and Floral Evolution in Platanthera bifolia and P. chlorantha (Orchidaceae)

    Författare :Johanne Maad; Charles B. Fenster; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Evolution; phenotypic selection; male function hypothesis; mating systems; floral shifts; orchids; pollination; moth pollinators; Platanthera.; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Natural selection mediated by pollinators has influenced the evolution of floral diversity of the flowering plants (angiosperms). The scope of this thesis was to study: 1) phenotypic selection, 2) mating systems, and 3) floral shifts involved in plant speciation. Model plant species were Platanthera bifolia and P. chlorantha (Orchidaceae). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Foxi1, an important gene for hearing, kidney function and male fertility

    Författare :Hilmar Vidarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: In this study we focused on the biological importance of the forkhead transcription factor Foxi1. The overall aim was to elucidate the functional role of Foxi1 in the inner ear, kidney and epididymis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Left atrial function in health and disease

    Författare :Mark Henein; Per Lindqvist; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Left atrium; Doppler echocardiography; atrial interaction; atrial pressure;

    Sammanfattning : The Objectives of this thesis are:1) To study possible atrial interaction in patients with right and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction due to significant pulmonary (PS) and aortic valve stenosis (AS), respectively.2) To assess left atrial (LA) intrinsic myocardial function and its relationship to indirect measures of left ventricular (LV) filling pressures in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). 5. 5. From sequence to function : Comparative studies of insect olfactory receptors

    Författare :Xiaoqing Hou; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Olfactory receptor; Heterologous expression; Pheromone; Plant volatile; Insect;

    Sammanfattning : In insects airborne odors are detected by the odorant receptors (ORs) and ionotropic receptors (IRs), located on the dendritic membrane of the olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) housed in olfactory sensilla. The OR and IR gene families show high plasticity in lineage expansion and contraction following the birth-and-death evolutionary model. LÄS MER
