  1. 21. The usability, acceptability, and satisfaction of a digital mental health tool for patients with breast and prostate cancer

    Författare :Nuhamin Gebrewold Petros; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Digital health tool;

    Sammanfattning : The impact and use of digital health tools vary considerably among individuals dealing with somatic illnesses, such as cancer. This variability can be attributed to several factors, such as sociodemographic characteristics, baseline mental health, perception of the intervention’s usefulness, ease of use, and early engagement with the system. 2. 22. Cancer after solid organ transplantation : incidence, risk factors, and survival

    Författare :Henrik Benoni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Solid organ transplant recipients (OTRs) are at increased risk of cancer compared with the general population, mainly due to post-transplant immunosuppressive treatment. Furthermore, once diagnosed with cancer, OTRs might experience worse cancerspecific and overall survival than non-transplanted cancer patients. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Health effects in biomedical research laboratory personnel in Sweden : cancer occurrence and reproductive outcomes

    Författare :Helena Wennborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cohort study; laboratory work; organic solvents; brain tumor; breast cancer; melanoma; spontaneous abortion; large-for-gestational age; time-to-pregnancy; fecundability;

    Sammanfattning : The main purposes of this thesis were to study mortality and cancer incidence among individuals working in biological and medical (biomedical) research laboratories as well as to investigate the possible adverse effects on reproduction in female laboratory personnel. This work is based on two cohorts. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Physiological and clinical studies of calcium-regulating hormones calcitonin and parathyroid hormone-related protein

    Författare :Haiqin Rong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :bone metabolism; breast cancer; calcitonin; calcium; exercise; lanthanide; milk; neonate; osteoporosis; parathyroid hormone-related protein; parturition; polymerase chain reaction; time-resolved fluorometry;

    Sammanfattning : The present studies were performed to elucidate several physiological and clinical questions of calcitonin (CT) and parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) such as: a) Does age influence the basal and calcium-stimulated levels and circulating molecular forms of CT in healthy females? b) Are osteoporotic patients lacking circulating monomeric CT? c) How is salmon CT (sCT) absorbed and cleared during treatment of diseases? d) Is there any effect of acute physical activity on circulating CT, PTH, PTHrP and bone metabolic markers? e) Is there an absorbance of PTHrP in milk by the neonate? and f) Are there any interactions between CT and PTHrP? In addition, by use of time-resolved dissociation and enhancement lanthanide fluorometry, the effort was put to develop two-site immunofluorometric assays (IFMA) for sCT and PTHrP as well as a quantitative competitive PCR (QC-PCR) for measuring PTHrP mRNA and use these methods in some of the investigations. Heterogeneity of CT forms in serum was disclosed after immunoextraction, fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) and radioimmunoassay (RIA) in healthy females and osteoporotic patients. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Estrogen in the development of esophageal and gastric adenocarcinoma

    Författare :Evangelos Chandanos; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to address the hypothesis that estrogen protects women against the development of esophageal and gastric adenocarcinoma (AC). These two cancers show a striking but totally unexplained male predominance in their incidence. LÄS MER
