  1. 16. Dissecting the complexity of human susceptibility to Plasmodium falciparum malaria: genetic approaches

    Författare :Valentina D Mangano; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Marta Alarcon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunology; genetics; malaria; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : There are many aspects of the immunology of P. falciparum infection that are not understood. Genetic approaches are of great value for dissecting the complexity of immune responses to malaria in natura by providing new insights into molecular interactions between the parasite and the host. 2. 17. Identification of bacteria associated with malaria mosquitoes - Their characterisation and potential use

    Författare :Jenny Lindh; Ingrid Faye; Marcelo Jacobs-Lorena; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; mosquito; Anopheles; bacteria; paratransgenics; semiochemicals; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The use of transformed bacteria to stop or kill disease-causing agents in the gut of vector insects is called paratransgenics. Two of the major steps in creating a paratransgenic Anopheles mosquito, unable to spread the Plasmodium parasites that cause malaria, are to find a bacterium suitable for the purpose and a way to introduce the transformed bacterium into mosquitoes in the field. 3. 18. Uncovering the genetics underlying host-parasite interactions during Plasmodium falciparum malaria transmission

    Författare :Mubasher Mohammed; Johan Ankarklev; David Serre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; Genomics; single-cell RNA-seq; Parasite cell fate; Anopheles gambiae; ApiAP2 transcription factors; driver genes; computational biology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : In eukaryotes, cellular differentiation is often orchestrated by programmed arrays of activation and repression of genes underlying the specific phenotypes of cell-types. To complete its life cycle, the single-celled Apicomplexan parasite Plasmodium falciparum, the most deadly of the human malaria parasites, must repeatedly differentiate and convert into unique cell types that can exploit niches within their human and mosquito hosts. 4. 19. Antibody responses and Fc gamma receptor IIa polymorphism in relation to Plasmodium falciparum malaria

    Författare :Nnaemeka C. Iriemenam; Klavs Berzins; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Philippe Deloron; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; blood-stage; antibodies; antigens; logistic models; risk factors; age factors; merozoites; IgG subclasses; Fc gamma RIIa; single nucleotide polymorphism; ethnicity; endemicity; disease susceptibility; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Immunity to asexual blood-stage of Plasmodium falciparum malaria is believed to be associated with protective antibodies of certain immunoglobulin classes and subclasses. This thesis addressed the importance of antibodies in relation to malaria infection and their effective interactions with Fc gamma receptor IIa (FcyRIIa) polymorphisms. LÄS MER
