1. Imaging and Spectroscopic Mapping of Blood Cell Activity : Nanoparticles and Neutrophil Extracellular Traps
Sammanfattning : Imaging and visualization of cell activity when exposed to nanomaterial are of main importance, when investigating biological response to a wide range of biomaterials from medical implants to smart nanoprobes. The ability to provide molecular and chemical information with spatial resolution in the region of sub-µm leads to increased insight and understanding of these biological challenges. LÄS MER
2. Gaps, Traps and Lattices - Correlations in Small Quantum Systems
Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates properties of two-dimensional many-body systems. Studies are performed using the Spin-Density Functional Theory with the Local Spin-Density Approximation, and numerical exact diagonalization. LÄS MER
3. Quantum optics in constrained geometries
Sammanfattning : When light exhibits particle properties, and when matter exhibits wave properties quantum mechanics is needed to describe physical phenomena. A two-photon source produces nonmaximally entangled photon pairs when the source is small enough to diffract light. It is shown that diffraction degrades the entanglement. LÄS MER
4. Chip-based magnetic levitation of superconducting microparticles
Sammanfattning : Magnetically levitated superconductors are extremely isolated from the environment, their mechanical properties can be tuned magnetically, and can be coupled to quantum systems such as superconducting quantum circuits. As such, they are a promising experimental platform for the creation of massive spatial quantum states that would test quantum mechanics in a hitherto unexplored parameter regime. LÄS MER
5. Spectroscopic Investigations of Highly Charged Tungsten Ions - Atomic Spectroscopy and Fusion Plasma Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : The spectra of highly charged tungsten ions have been investigated using x-ray and extreme ultraviolet spectroscopy. These heavy ions are of interest in relativistic atomic structure theory, where high-precision wavelength measurements benchmark theoretical approaches, and in magnetic fusion research, where the ions may serve to diagnose high-temperature plasmas.
