21. Treatment wetlands in a tropical climate
Sammanfattning : The decrease of water resources values as a result of eutrophication is a major problem in numerous lakes around the world, including the Great African Lakes. One of the most important tasks to limit this eutrophication, is to decrease the nutrient input from land-based activities. LÄS MER
22. Nitrogen and phosphorus interactions and transformations in cold-climate mine water recipients
Sammanfattning : Process water discharged from mine sites may contain elevated concentrations of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), which both are nutrients for phytoplankton and macrophytes. Thus, discharge of nutrient rich mine water can result in algal blooms, eutrophication, oxygen deficiency and changed species composition in the recipients. LÄS MER
23. Uptake and toxicity of brominated flame retardants and pesticides : Studies on littoral organisms and model communities
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, brackish and freshwater littoral model communities (microcosms) of varying size and complexity were used to study the effects of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and pesticides. The brackish water microcosms consisted of natural water, sediment and associated organisms, while the larger freshwater microcosms also contained submersed macrophytes (Elodea canadensis). LÄS MER
24. Nitrogen effluents from mine sites in northern Sweden : nitrogen transformations and limiting nutrient in receiving waters
Sammanfattning : Process water discharged from mine sites may contain elevated concentrations of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), which both are nutrients for algae and aquatic plants. Thus, discharge of nutrient rich mine water can result in algal blooms, eutrophication, oxygen deficiency and changed species composition in the receiving waters. LÄS MER
25. Wastewater treatment in constructed wetlands : Effects of vegetation, hydraulics and data analysis methods
Sammanfattning : Degradation of water resources has become one of the most pressing global concerns currently facing mankind. Constructed Wetlands (CWs) represent a concept to combat deterioration of water resources by acting as buffers between wastewater and receiving water bodies. LÄS MER
