  1. 6. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Författare :Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 7. Allosteric Regulation of mRNA Metabolism : -Mechanisms of Cap-Dependent Regulation of Poly(A)-specific Ribonuclease (PARN)

    Författare :Per Nilsson; Anders Virtanen; Megerditch Kiledjian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell and molecular biology; mRNA degradation; deadenylation; cap; poly A ; PARN; allosteric regulation; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Degradation of mRNA is a highly regulated step important for proper gene expression. Degradation of eukaryotic mRNA is initiated by shortening of the 3’ end located poly(A) tail. Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (PARN) is an oligomeric enzyme that degrades the poly(A) tail with high processivity. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Viruses as a Model System for Studies of Eukaryotic mRNA Processing

    Författare :Anette Lindberg; Jan-Peter Kreivi; Göran Akusjärvi; Lars Wieslander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; ICP27; herpes simplex virus; mRNA; splicing; adenovirus; ASF SF2; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses depend on their hosts for the production and spread of new virus particles. For efficient virus replication, the viral genes have adapted the strategy of being recognized and processed by the cellular biosynthetic machineries. Viruses therefore provide an important tool to study the cellular machinery regulating gene expression. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Preproenkephalin Gene and mRNA : Studies of Structure, Function, Cocaine Responses in an Animal Model, and Genetic Association with Human Opiate Addiction

    Författare :Karl Steven LaForge; Fred Nyberg; Peter S. Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biological research on drug dependence; Neuropeptides; Endogenous opioid system; Drug addiction; Heroin; Cocaine; Gene expression; Genetic association; Biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The endogenous opioid enkephalin neuropeptides are mediators of pain perception and have been implicated in human addictions. The preproenkephalin gene and its mRNA have also provided many examples of tissue- and species-specific variations in mRNA structure produced through a variety of transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms. 5. 10. Regulation of pre-mRNA splicing and mRNA degradation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Yang Zhou; Marcus Johansson; Anders Byström; Marie Öhman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMD; RES complex; pre-mRNA splicing; magnesium homeostasis;

    Sammanfattning : Messenger RNAs are transcribed and co-transcriptionally processed in the nucleus, and transported to the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, mRNAs serve as the template for protein synthesis and are eventually degraded. The removal of intron sequences from a precursor mRNA is termed splicing and is carried out by the dynamic spliceosome. LÄS MER
