    Sammanfattning : Large amounts of nitric oxide (NO) are produced by the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) upon inflammatory stimuli. NO is a multifaceted molecule, which may have beneficial effects as an antimicrobial agent in the immune defense, or cytotoxic effects in chronic inflammations, manifested as e.g. arthritis and asthma. 3. 13. Nuclear Organization of Gene Expression in Adenovirus Infected Cells

    Författare :Anders Aspegren; Lars Wieslander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Adenovirus; mRNA; transport; IGCs; E434kDa; E1B55kDa; NES; snRNP; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Adenovirus infected cells provide a good model system for studying nuclear organization during RNA production and transport. This thesis is focused on the dynamic organization of splicing factors during the late phase of Adenovirus infection in HeLa cells, the nuclear localization of viral RNA, and the pathway used for viral RNA transport to the cytoplasm. 4. 14. The Role of Polyadenylation in Human Papillomavirus Type 16 Late Gene Expression

    Författare :Daniel Öberg; Stefan Schwartz; Sheila Graham; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; HPV-16; polyadenylation; mRNA stability; codon usage; hnRNP H; DSE; splicing; negative element; RNA processing; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : High-risk type human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are associated with cancer. HPVs are strictly epitheliotropic and infect basal cell layers, establishing a life cycle strongly linked to the differentiation stage of the infected cells. The viral capsid late genes, L2 and L1, are only expressed in terminally differentiated epithelium. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Cellular proteins binding to the HCV 5' and 3' UTRs

    Författare :Karin Spångberg; Ingemar Ernberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Hepatitis C virus; RNA-binding proteins; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a worldwide health problem with more than 170 million people infected by the virus. About 80% become chronic carriers, which may result in hepatocellular carcinoma. The lack of an in vitro cell culture system that allows propagation of the virus has hampered the development of a vaccine or anti-viral drugs against HCV. LÄS MER
