  1. 21. Epigenetic changes and immunological features of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

    Författare :Jonas Eriksson Ström; Annelie F. Behndig; Anders Bucht; Anne Lindberg; Erik Melén; Fabbri Leonardo M.; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; immunology; epigenetics; KOLIN; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine; immunologi; Immunology; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a heterogenous and chronic inflammatory syndrome with the lungs as its main target organ. Clinically, COPD is characterized by airflow limitation, chronic respiratory symptoms, and many extrapulmonary comorbidities. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Airway effects of diesel exhaust in healthy and asthmatic subjects

    Författare :Charlotta Nordenhäll; Thomas Sandström; Ellinor Ädelroth; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; air pollution; diesel exhaust; airway responsiveness; airway inflammation; lung function; asthmatics; immunohistochemistry; bronchial epithelium;

    Sammanfattning : Several epidemiological studies have revealed an association between particulate matter (PM) pollution and various health effects. Importantly, there is evidence to suggest that individuals with pre-existing respiratory disease, such as asthma, are more sensitive to elevated ground levels of particulate matter as compared to healthy subjects. 3. 23. Endotoxin-induced inflammation in healthy human airways

    Författare :Margaretha E. Smith; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LPS; neutrophils; bronchoalveolar lavage; human airways; innate immunity;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the innate immune response in healthy human airways in vivo after simulation of a Gram-negative infection. Intrabronchial exposure to the TLR4 agonist endotoxin was used as a model for the innate mechanisms in the immune response that are caused by cigarette smoke and by natural infection with Gram-negative bacteria. 4. 24. Systems biology approaches to investigate mechanisms of obstructive lung diseases

    Författare :Marika Ström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Both asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are obstructive lung diseases with a large impact on global health, causing 400 000 and 3 million deaths respectively each year. The numbers may be underestimated, since COPD often contributes to death without being registered as the cause of death. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Cardiopulmonary involvement in Puumala hantavirus infection

    Författare :Johan Rasmuson; Clas Ahlm; Anders Blomberg; Jamshid Pourazar; Gregory J. Mertz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome; hantavirus; echocardiography; respiratory function tests; computed tomography; bronchoalveolar lavage; biopsy; cytotoxic T cells; disease severity; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Puumala hantavirus (PUUV) causes hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome in Europe. After inhalation of virus shed by bank voles, the virus systemically targets the vascular endothelium leading to vascular dysfunction and leakage. LÄS MER
