  1. 1. Ventilation distribution in the lung periphery measured by inert gas washout : influence of increased gravity, anti-G suit pressure, body posture, and breathing pattern

    Författare :Mikael Grönkvist; Göran Hedenstierna; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :acceleration; anti-G suit; body posture; cdi; dcdi; human centrifuge; He; hypergravuty; lung; multiple-breath washout; single-breath washout; SF 6; standing; supune; trapped gas; ventilation distribution; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The lung is highly sensitive to forces of gravity and acceleration, and to surrounding pressures. This thesis aimed to assess the effects on ventilation distribution in peripheral lung units when changing the direction or magnitude of the gravitational vector and when compressing the lower body half with an anti-G suit (AGS). 2. 2. The Effect of CO2-Pneumoperitoneum on Ventilation Perfusion Distribution of the Lung

    Författare :Christof Strang; Göran Hedenstierna; Suzanne Odeberg-Wernerman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :lung; atelectasis; computed tomography; multiple inert gas elimination technique; model; pig; Pa–ECO2 ratio; surgery; laparoscopy; lung; blood flow; single photon emission computed tomography; ventilation perfusion distribution; gas exchange; hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Laparoscopic operations are a common and popular way for abdominal procedures. They are usually performed by insufflation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the abdominal cavity. However, insufflation of CO2 may interfere with cardiac and circulatory as well as respiratory functions. The CO2-pneumoperitoneum (PP) may cause hypercarbia and acidosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pathophysiological and Histomorphological Effects of One-Lung Ventilation in the Porcine Lung

    Författare :Alf Kozian; Göran Hedenstierna; Thomas Hachenberg; Filip Freden; Sten Walther; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alveolar Recruitment Manoeuvre; One-Lung Ventilation; Lung Protective Ventilation; Tidal Volume; Computed Tomography; Tidal Recruitment; Animal Model; Open Thoracic Surgery; Ventilation Perfusion Distribution; Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography; Diffuse Alveolar Damage; Medical laboratory science; Medicinsk laboratorievetenskap; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Sammanfattning : Thoracic surgical procedures require partial or complete airway separation and the opportunity to exclude one lung from ventilation (one-lung ventilation, OLV). OLV is commonly associated with profound pathophysiological changes that may affect the postoperative outcome. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lung hyaluronan and lung water in the perinatal period

    Författare :Hans Johnsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; antenatal corticosteroids; antenatal terbutaline; hyaluronan; hyperoxia; lung water; perinatal period; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan is an important component of the lung extracellular matrix, with a high capacity for water immobilization, but information on perinatal changes in the lung hyaluronan concentration and their association with changes in the lung water content is limited. In this study, conducted both in rabbit pups and in human infants, we investigated changes in the hyaluronan concentration and distribution in the lung and in the lung water content after preterm or term birth, and changes produced by common antenatal and postnatal pathological conditions and treatments. 5. 5. Minimally invasive cardiorespiratory monitoring and lung recruitment manoeuvres. Studies in animals and humans

    Författare :Helena Odenstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Monitoring; cardiac output; lung volume; lung recruitment manoeuvre; regional ventilation; acute lung injury; bronchoalveolar lavage; endotoxin; cardiac tamponade;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The maintenance of adequate oxygen delivery is essential to preserve organ function. The circulatory and respiratory systems interact closely to accomplish this. Optimising the function of these systems is of fundamental importance in critically ill patients. This requires adequate monitoring techniques. LÄS MER
