21. The expression and molecular functions of LRIG proteins in cancer and psoriasis
Sammanfattning : The leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains (LRIG) family consists of three integral membrane proteins that are important in human cancer. LRIG1 is a negative regulator of growth factor signaling. Its expression is associated with longer survival in several cancer types, and the gene has been shown to function as a tumor suppressor. 22. Pan-cancer study of transcriptional responses to oncogenic somatic mutations
Sammanfattning : Cancer cells typically carry acquired somatic mutations in key cancer driver genes, which can be identified on the basis of recurrence in cancer cohorts. Such mutations may cause aberrant protein activity and altered gene expression in the nucleus, driving the cell toward a cancerous phenotype. LÄS MER
23. Radiotherapy in Early Breast Cancer
Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy (RT) after mastectomy has been part of the treatment for early breast cancer since the 1940s. The treatment reduces the risk of loco-regional recurrences, but implies risk of late side effects that can begin decades after RT. LÄS MER
24. Role of mitochondria in early molecular diagnosis and prognosis of cancer
Sammanfattning : Background:Earlier clinical detection of cancer may improve survival as well as offer opportunities for less invasive treatment options. This thesis explores whether the mitochondria and its related genes in the nuclear genome can be used as novel methods for the diagnosis and prognosis of cancers. LÄS MER
25. Factors influencing management and outcome in non-small cell lung cancer : the role of socioeconomic status, age, geographic region of origin and aspects of quality of life
Sammanfattning : Yearly, 4,200 individuals in Sweden are diagnosed with lung cancer, of which 85 % are non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aims of this thesis were to investigate aspects of equality of care and outcomes in patients with NSCLC and to examine indicators of quality of life. LÄS MER
