11. Quantification of population exposure and health impacts associated with air pollution
Sammanfattning : There is substantial evidence that air pollution, in particular particulate matter (PM), affects our health. The overall objective of this thesis is to understand and quantify population exposure to ambient air pollution and related health impacts. LÄS MER
12. What Can Nature Withstand? : Science, Politics and Discourses in Transboundary Air Pollution Diplomacy
Sammanfattning : Long-range transboundary air pollution generates pressing environmental problems such as the acidification of lakes and soils, forest decline and loss of biodiversity as well as threats to human health across Europe. The overall aim of this study is to explore the role of scientific expertise in environmental diplomacy by analyzing recent international agreements in the transboundary air pollution (LRTAP) regime. 13. Modeling of new particle formation and growth in the atmospheric boundary layer
Sammanfattning : Atmospheric aerosols affect climate, but to what degree still remains one of the largest uncertainties in global climate models. To improve the representation of aerosols in future climate models we need a greater understanding of aerosol processes. LÄS MER
14. On the Determination of Reactive Compounds in Aerosols
Sammanfattning : Many sources of airborne contaminants have always been present in various work environments. With the development of thermosetting plastic systems, the use of reactive chemical compounds was greatly increased and thus also the risk of exposure to reactive and potentially hazardous compounds. 15. Road Traffic Noise - Factors modifying its relation to annoyance and cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : Traffic noise causes annoyance and sleep disturbance and has been linked with several other adverse effects on life quality and health, including increased risk of hypertension and myocardial infarction. Conservative estimates assume that at least one million healthy life years are lost every year from traffic related noise in the western part of Europe. LÄS MER
