  1. 1. The contribution of eosinophils and mediators in allergic inflammation

    Författare :Annika Roquet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :allergic inflammation; eosinophils; bronchial hyperresponsiveness; histamine; leukotrienes; antihistamine; leukotriene-antagonist; low-dose challenge;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to investigate the development of allergic inflammation. For this purpose human experimental challenge models in skin, nose and bronchi were used as well as pharmacological interventions. A variety of inflammatory cells and mediators have been suggested as important in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Early airway inflammation in allergic asthma : aspects of pulmonary innate immunity

    Författare :Catarina Lensmar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :allergic asthma; low-dose allergen challenge; induced sputum; alveolar macrophage; cytokine; CC16; antibacterial activity; antibacterial peptide;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic asthma is a chronic disease in which allergen-induced inflammatory processes of the airways contribute to the development of symptoms and eventually may lead to remodeling of the airway tissue. In the present work low-dose allergen inhalation challenges of individuals with asthma were used as a model to delineate inflammatory events occurring in an early phase of the allergic airway inflammation associated with asthma. 3. 3. Effects of nitrogen dioxide on airway responsiveness in allergic asthma

    Författare :Victoria Strand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :air pollution; nitrogen dioxide; asthma; allergy; airway responsiveness; pulmonary function; eosinophils; particulates; repeated exposure;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in the industrialized world and its prevalence is increasing. Clinical symptoms of airway obstruction and bronchial hyper responsiveness can be induced by specific agents, such as allergens and non-specific stimuli, such as cold air and irritants. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Endogenous and exogenous glucocorticoid effects in a model of allergic airway inflammation

    Författare :Susanna Kumlien Georén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Airway; allergy; asthma; eosinophil; glucocorticoids; hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal HPA axis; inflammation; nerve growth factor NGF ; neuroimmunology; psychoneuroimmunology; restraint; stress;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic asthma and rhinitis are inflammatory diseases of the airways. Allergic asthma is characterized by eosinophilic inflammation, reversible bronchoconstriction and airway hyperresponsiveness, whereas patients with rhinitis suffer from nasal inflammation, leading to rhinorrhea and nasal congestion.
