21. Properties of Volume Bragg Gratings and Nonlinear Crystals for Laser Engineering
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on two topics: thermal limitations of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) employed as laser-cavity mirrors and formation of color centers in KTiOPO4 and its isomorphs. To explore the mechanisms of the thermal limitations of VBGs in high power lasers, I designed and constructed a diode-pumped, solid‑state laser with a VBG as cavity mirror that had a significantly higher absorption than what is typical. 22. Spectral control of lasers and optical parametric oscillators with volume Bragg gratings
23. Novel RF MEMS Switch and Packaging Concepts
Sammanfattning : Radio-frequency microelectromechanical systems (RF~MEMS) are highly miniaturized devices intended to switch, modulate, filter or tune electrical signals from DC to microwave frequencies. The micromachining techniques used to fabricate these components are based on the standard clean-room manufacturing processes for high-volume integrated semiconductor circuits. LÄS MER
24. Pitch, loudness and frequency selectivity in low-frequency hearing loss
Sammanfattning : Patients with Ménière's disease and cochlear hydrops show fluctuating low-frequency hearing loss (FLFHL). At present these changes are followed as patients' subjective reports and occasional measurements. LÄS MER
25. Molecular Diagnostics Using Volume-Amplified Magnetic Nanobeads : Towards the Development of a Novel Biosensor System
Sammanfattning : Micro- or nanometer sized magnetic particles (beads) currently have a vast range of life science applications in, for example, bioseparation techniques, cancer therapy, development of contrast agents and biosensing techniques. In the latter field, magnetic beads offer several unique advantages, including minimal background signals, physical and chemical stability and low manufacturing costs. LÄS MER
