11. Bandwidth Limited Distributed Optimization with Applications to Networked Cyberphysical Systems
Sammanfattning : The emerging technology of Cyberphysical systems consists of networked computing, sensing, and actuator devices used to monitor, connect, and control physical phenomena. In order to economically and sustainably operate Cyberphysical systems, their devices need to cooperate over a communication network to solve optimization problems. LÄS MER
12. Wind Power Integration in Power Systems with Transmission Bottlenecks
Sammanfattning : During the last two decades, the increase in electricity demand and environmental concern resulted in fast growth of power production from renewable sources. Wind power is one of the most efficient alternatives. LÄS MER
13. Tracking selective attention in a musical cocktail
Sammanfattning : The cocktail party effect refers to mankind’s ability to focus attention on a single sound within noisy or complex auditory environments, in order to extract the most behaviourally-relevant information present. To investigate this cognitive phenomenon in a precise manner, we used frequency-tagging to separate neural auditory steady-state responses (ASSRs), which are specific to the driving frequency of each auditory source, from a neural mix elicited by multiple simultaneous stimuli. 14. Continuity and Change : Essays on path-dependence in economic geography and good food
Sammanfattning : How can it be, that in our rapidly changing world certain things remain recognisably the same for such a long time? This dissertation is concerned with the economic geography of path-dependence and seeks to explain selected everyday examples of continuity and change. How can French restaurants and chefs be successful for decades despite changes in taste? Why are cars powered by fossil fuels still around while there are many novel and cleaner alternatives? What explains the re-invention of local food products in spite of the influx of many new products from around the world? These are the question this dissertation tries to explain as spatial expressions of ‘path-dependence’. LÄS MER
15. Low Power Techniques for Fast CMOS Buffer Memories
Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with circuit-level aspects of CMOS buffer SRAMs where the data throughput rate is a more important metric than access time or storage capacity. One aspect is the increased write cycle related power consumption that is the consequence of a high write ratio combined with a long word-length. LÄS MER
