11. The effect of thrombin inhibitors on coagulation activity and generation of activated protein C
Sammanfattning : The direct thrombin inhibitor inogatran was, in the TRIM trial (n=1209), compared with unfractionated heparin (UFH) concerning the effect on cardiovascular end-points in unstable coronary artery disease. The results in TRIM demonstrated a trend towards a benefit for UFH during the treatment phase, which was reduced after drug withdrawal. LÄS MER
12. Development of novel serotonin 5-HT6 and dopamine D2 receptor ligands and MAO A inhibitors - Synthesis, structure-activity relationships and pharmacological characterization
Sammanfattning : It is known since the 1950s that enhancement of the levels of the monoamines dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) in the brain will relieve the symptoms of major depression, and current therapies are still based on this mechanism. However, all available antidepressants today are still suffering from slow onset of therapeutic action, as well as adverse effects and lack of efficacy. LÄS MER
13. Treatment of deep vein thrombosis and risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism
Sammanfattning : A cute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) are different clinical presentations of the same underlying disease, namely venous thromboembolism (VTE), which is a common and potentially fatal condition. Risk factors associated with the first and probably also subsequent events of VTE are hereditary or acquired. LÄS MER
14. Interaction of herpes simplex virus with cell surface glycosaminoglycans as a target for antiviral intervention
Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in humans are predominantly manifested as oral cold sores or genital ulcers. As HSV infects cells by interaction with cell surface heparan sulfate (HS) and/or chondroitin sulfate (CS), the aim of the research work presented in this thesis was to explore the possibility of antiviral intervention with compounds that mimic HS or CS. 15. Endogenous t-PA release and pharmacological thrombolysis - Experimental animal studies of the coronary circulation
Sammanfattning : Abstract The physiologically most important activator of intravascular fibrinolysis is tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) released from endothelial cells. In man, sympathomimetic drugs increase the systemic concentration of t-PA. LÄS MER
