11. Functions of REP27 and the low molecular weight proteins PsbX and PsbW in repair and assembly of photosystem II
Sammanfattning : Oxygenic photosynthesis is the major producer of both oxygen and organic compounds on earth and takes place in plants, green algae and cyanobacteria. The thylakoid membranes are the site of the photosynthetic light reactions that involve the concerted action of four major protein complexes known as photosystem II (PSII), cytochrome b6f complex, ATP synthase and photosystem I (PSI). 12. Relationship between chemical structure and airway sensitizing potential for organic acid anhydrides : an animal model
Sammanfattning : Oranic acid anhydrides (OAAs) are important reactive, low-molecular-weight industrial chemicals which induce allergic rhinitis and asthma in exposed subjects. Specific IgE has been demonstrated in a large proportion of OAA-exposed workers. LÄS MER
13. New approaches to concentration, desalting and separation of biopolymers in capillary electrophoresis
Sammanfattning : In the first part of the thesis five new on-tube methods for concentration and desalting ofampholytes, such as peptides and proteins, are described in Papers I and II. The methods arebased on the fact that electrophoretic migration velocities decrease upon a decrease in theabsolute value of the zeta potential of a solute and the pore size of the electrophoresis mediumand upon an increase in the cross section of the electrophoresis chamber, the viscosity and theelectrical conductivity of the electrophoresis medium. 14. Molecular mechanisms of growth suppression by pharmacologically activated p53
Sammanfattning : The tumor suppressor p53 is a transcription factor that is crucial for protecting cells from cancer development. The importance of p53 tumor suppression function is highlighted by the fact that the p53 pathway is inactivated in most, if not all cancers. LÄS MER
15. Molecular mechanisms of estrogen action in relation to metabolic disease
Sammanfattning : Estrogens have multiple effects on the body. Most studied are the effects on female reproduction. In this thesis, we have focused on the metabolic effects of estrogens. Estrogen treatment decreases adipose tissue mass and has anti-diabetic effects in humans and mice. LÄS MER
