6. Single-Proton Irradiation of Living Cells - Development of New Tools for Low-Dose Radiation Research
Sammanfattning : A Single-Ion Hit Facility (SIHF) consists of a custom-build facility based in particle accelerators which offers irradiation controlling the number of delivered particles with a precise targeting localization. The irradiation spot can be confined down to the nanometre scale allowing the irradiation of subcellular compartments with a single particle. LÄS MER
7. Neonatal Exposure to Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation in Mice : Developmental Neurotoxic Effects of Single and Fractionated Doses and Interaction with Nicotine
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to investigate the developmental neurotoxic effects of low-dose exposure to ionizing radiation, alone or together with nicotine, during a defined critical period of neonatal brain development in mice. Investigation of neurotoxic effects following fractionated or acute low-dose radiation, resembling the clinical situation during repeated CT scans or radiation delivered to non-target tissue during radiotherapy, and possible interaction effects with other agents, is of great importance for risk and safety evaluation. 8. Patient Outcomes after Radiotherapy of Prostate Cancer. Impact of Absorbed Dose and Treated Volume
Sammanfattning : Abstract Backgound Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men in Sweden. Radiotherapy, including external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and brachytherapy (BT), is important treatment alternatives to surgery and active surveillance. LÄS MER
9. Low dose ketamine : analgesia and side-effects in patients and volunteers
Sammanfattning : There is a need for novel approaches in the pharmacological treatment of pain. In many pain states the present treatment options are insufficient. Altered processing in sensory pathways often underlies such intractable pain. LÄS MER
10. Risk from radionuclides: a frog's perspective : Accumulation of 137Cs in a riparian wetland, radiation doses, and effects on frogs and toads after low-dose rate exposure
Sammanfattning : Threats from man-made radionuclides include waste issues, increasing number of power plants, underground bomb testing, nuclear weapons, and “dirty bombs”. Until recently the ionizing radiation protection system focused on protecting humans with an implied protection of biota. LÄS MER
