16. Basis for reclassification of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) shows broad differences in racial and geographical distribution, radiosensitivity, and a multifactorial etiology. This thesis aims to identify molecular biomarkers with potentially valuable for prognostic implications in NPC. LÄS MER
17. Delection mapping of human 3p in major epithelial types of cancer and fine localization of candidate tumor suppressor genes
Sammanfattning : Allele loss and deletion mapping using microsatellite markers and the detection of homozygous deletions represented until now the most powerful method to localize potential TSGs. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) involving several chromosome 3p regions accompanied by chromosome 3p deletions are detected in almost 100% of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), small (SCLCs) and more than 90% of non-small (NSCLC) cell lung cancers. 18. Growth of parathyroid glands : genetic and functional aspects
Sammanfattning : Ca2+ is an essential ion with a variety of important functions in the body and it is crucial that the Ca2+ levels are precisely regulated. One of the hormones regulating these processes is parathyroid hormone (PTH) secreted from the parathyroid glands. LÄS MER
19. Molecular studies of pancreatic cancer: Characterization of the transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, genetic abnormalities in pancreatic cancer were studied, with special emphasis on alterations of components involved in the transforming growth factor beta (TGFB) signaling pathway. In the first study, fluorescence in situ hybridization and cytogenetic analyses revealed aberrations of chromosome 18 in all 13 pancreatic carcinoma cell lines studied, in particular frequent breaks close to the centromere of chromosome arm 18q. 20. Biological signature of HER2-positive breast cancer
Sammanfattning : Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpressing breast cancers (HER2+ breast cancer) are associated with an aggressive disease course. This thesis is focused on improving the understanding of the biological signature of HER2+ breast cancer. LÄS MER
