In Essay 1, Sickness Absence and Peer Effects – Evidence from a Swedish Municipality, detailed employment records from a Swedish public employer are used to investigate whether sick leave among work group colleagues influences individual sick leave.     Sammanfattning : Syfte: Avhandlingen studerade sambandet mellan fatigue (trötthet) och valda inverkande faktorer, funktionsförmåga (fysisk och daglig aktivitet och arbetsförmåga) samt med hälsorelaterad livskvalitet (HRQL) vid kroniskt obstruktiv lungsjukdom (KOL) och vid cancer. Metod: Patienter med KOL (n=121, delarbete I-II) och patienter med cancer under pågående strålbehandling (n=457, delarbete III) studerades i tvärsnittsstudier. The composition of such absence has also changed in that there have been increases in sick leave due to mental illness, prolongation of sickness absence periods, and a larger proportion of women than men on long-term sick leave.
