  1. 1. Evaluation of nasal speech a study of assessments by speech-language pathologists, untrained listeners and nasometry

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Klinisk vetenskap

    Författare :Karin Brunnegård; Umeå universitet.; [2008]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypernasality; auditory perceptual evaluation; reliability; nasometer; nasalance; MEDICINE Surgery Otorhinolaryngology Logopedics and phoniatrics; MEDICIN Kirurgi Otorhinolaryngologi Logopedi och foniatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Excessive nasal resonance in speech (hypernasality) is a disorder which may have negative communicative and social consequences for the speaker. Excessive nasal resonance is often associated with cleft lip and palate, velopharyngeal impairment, dysarthria or hearing impairment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prevention of oxidant-induced cell death by intralysosomal iron binding

    Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Författare :Lennart Persson; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2003]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The lung is particularly prone to oxidative stress by its exposure to ambient oxygen and inhaled environmental oxidants. Abnormal assimilation and accumulation of iron are found in many lung disorders, which in redox-active form will exacerbate oxidative tissue damage. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Collision Threshold Pressure A novel measure of voice function Effects of vocal warm-up, vocal loading and resonance tube phonation in water

    Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Författare :Laura Enflo; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2013]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The phonation threshold pressure (PTP), i.e., the smallest amount of subglottal pressure needed to initiate and sustain vocal fold oscillation, is frequently difficult to measure due to the difficulty for some subjects to produce extremely soft phonation. In addition, PTP values are often quite scattered. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Swallowing dysfunction among older people in short-term care prevalence, effect of intervention, and risk of mortality

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Författare :Patricia Hägglund; Umeå universitet.; Umeå universitet.; [2019]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; swallowing disorder; dysphagia; elderly care; intermediate care; undernutrition; oral health; treatment; rehabilitation; quality of life; mortality risk; survival;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: Swallowing dysfunction (dysphagia) is a common, but often neglected condition among geriatric patients that can cause severe complications such as malnutrition, aspiration pneumonia and death. The aims of this thesis were to (i) describe the study design and method of the multidisciplinary and multicenter project SOFIA (Swallowing function, Oral health, and Food Intake in old Age), (ii) study the prevalence of and the relationship between swallowing dysfunction and risk of undernutrition among older individuals in short-term care, (iii) study the effect of oral neuromuscular training on swallowing dysfunction among older individuals, and (iv) to investigate the association between poor oral health, swallowing dysfunction and mortality. 5. 5. Oral Motor Function, Voice, Speech and Language in Children with Tonsillar Hypertrophy in Relation to Surgical Outcome

    Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Författare :Inger Lundeborg Hammarström; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE Surgery Otorhinolaryngology; MEDICIN Kirurgi Otorhinolaryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was two-fold: first, to evaluate four different functional aspects of the speech and language spectrum; oral-motor function, voice, /s/-articulation and phonology in preschool children with tonsillar hypertrophy before and after surgical treatment. The second aim was to investigate weather the outcome of surgery was equal for two surgical techniques; tonsillectomy or tonsillotomy combined with adenoidectomy when necessary. LÄS MER
