  1. 21. The Shepherds of Þjórsárver. : Traditional Use and Hydropower Development in the Commons of the Icelandic Highland

    Författare :Helga Ögmundardóttir; Hugh Beach; Gísli Pálsson; Mark Nuttall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Land use disputes; local peoples; sheep herding; damming; commons; identity; traditions; nationalism; Þjórsárver wetland reserve.; Cultural anthropology; Kulturantropologi; Kulturantropologi; Cultural Anthropology;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores a damming dispute that has been going on for over four decades in Iceland, about whether a dam, Norðlingaölduveita, should be built in the central highland, near the glacier Hofsjökull and the wetland reserve Þjórsárver, or not.  The study focuses on the local resistance against the dam, led by a group of people in the farming community Gnúpverjahreppur, which has its highland grazing commons in the Þjórsárver area. 2. 22. 'The Emperor's New Clothes' Recordkeeping in a New Context

    Författare :Maria Kallberg; Karen Anderson; Göran Samuelsson; Elizabeth Shepherd; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; recordkeeping; e-government; recordkeeping awareness; information management; continuum; public archive; archivists; registrars; local government; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines if and how information capture and documentation practices and the function of the public archive are changing in relation to archival concepts in contemporary administrative settings, as a result of e-government strategic development. The study aims for a holistic approach from the beginning of the life of the records to their long-term preservation. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion and cardioprotection. A study with microdialysis in a porcine model

    Författare :Carsten Metzsch; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heart preservation; metoprolol; levosimendan; beta-blockers; pharmacological preconditioning; myocardial ischemia; cardioprotection; glycerol; microdialysis; cold cardioplegic storage;

    Sammanfattning : The studies in this thesis are based on questions raised in the clinical setting. Perioperative myocardial ischemia occurs more often than recognized. This may lead to myocardial infarction, increased morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Small biotopes in agricultural landscapes: importance for vascular plants and effects of management

    Författare :Therese Irminger Street; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Small biotopes; incidental habitat; vascular plants; woody vegetation; grassland species; resource provisioning; species richness; habitat specificity; non-crop habitat; landscape complexity; heterogeneity; local management; agri-environment scheme;

    Sammanfattning : As a consequence of agricultural intensification, large areas of non-crop habitat have been lost and farmland biodiversity has declined. Previous studies have shown that the extent of non-crop habitat influences farmland biodiversity, but the relative importance of different habitat types is less well known and the contribution of small incidental habitats to landscape-scale species richness is not fully understood. 5. 25. Solar Assisted Pervaporation : A process for the concentration of fruit juices in membrane pouches with solar energy

    Författare :Randi Phinney; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pervaporation; solar drying; membrane pouch; juice concentration; fruit preservation; marmalade; tangerine; Vangueria infausta; microbiology; water activity; soluble solids; Brix;

    Sammanfattning : Drying has been used for thousands of years to preserve foods. One of the first methods used was open air sun drying which exposes foods directly to solar radiation and ambient air. This method is still used today around the world but it remains underdeveloped on a small-scale for two main reasons. LÄS MER
