  1. 6. Ecological drivers and genetic signatures of evolutionary divergence and local adaptation in pike (Esox lucius)

    Författare :Johanna Sunde; Anders Forsman; Anssi Laurila; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adaptation; differentiation; Esox lucius; evolution; gene flow; genetic admixture; genetic structure; microsatellites; pike; RADseq; salinity tolerance; temperature tolerance; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The diversity among species, populations, and individuals in nature is astonishing. Genetic and phenotypic variation constitutes the raw material for evolution. It influences how populations respond to changing environments, and can impact long-term survival of species and ecosystem functioning. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Genetic Variation and Migration of Waders

    Författare :Liv Wennerberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mtDNA sequencing; microsatellite analysis; Dunlin; Calidris alpina; Curlew Sandpiper; Calidris ferruginea; White-rumped Sandpiper; Calidris fuscicollis; carbon isotope ratios; Zoologi; Zoology; Ecology; bird migration; population genetics; Ekologi; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The migratory behaviour of birds has received much scientific interest, though many questions still remain unsolved. One of the reasons for this is the difficulty of following the birds as they move between breeding and wintering localities. Populations may mix on migration and the origin of individual birds is difficult to assess. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Evolutionary Processes and Spatial Genetic Variation in Euphrasia stricta on the Baltic Island of Gotland

    Författare :Anna-Karin Kolseth; Brita Svensson; Mikael Lönn; Joop Ouborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; genetic differentiation; regional processes; conservation genetics; AFLP; microsatellites; gene flow; local adaptation; shape analysis; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The identification of processes governing genetic structure at different spatial scales remains a major challenge in evolutionary biology and is of considerable applied interest in conservation biology. In Euphrasia stricta five varieties have been identified (brevipila, gotlandica, stricta, suecica and tenuis) based on differences in habitat, phenology and morphology. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Genetic variation and local adaptation in peripheral populations of toads

    Författare :Björn Rogell; Jacob Höglund; Anssi Laurila; Josh Van Bushkirk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestrisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Northern fringe populations generally have low amounts of genetic variation and inhabit habitats where specific adaptations are needed. On the Swedish west coast, the natterjack toad (Bufo calamita) inhabits skerry islands. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Genetic Variation and Evolution of Floral Display in Primula farinosa

    Författare :Camille Madec; Jon Ågren; Johan Ehrlén; Richard Ennos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; natural selection; flowering time; population differentiation; local adaptation; male reproductive success;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combine molecular analyses, common-garden and field experiments to examine how evolutionary and ecological processes influence patterns of genetic variation among and within populations of the declining, insect-pollinated, self-incompatible, perennial herb Primula farinosa. More specifically I examined 1) whether genetic diversity at neutral marker loci was related to habitat fragmentation and habitat stability, 2) whether floral display and flowering time were more strongly differentiated among populations than were putatively neutral marker loci, 3) whether adaptive population differentiation could be detected on a local spatial scale, and 4) whether floral display differentially affected male and female reproductive success.
