1. Theoretical Description of Electronic Transitions in Large Molecular Systems in the Optical and X-Ray Regions
Sammanfattning : The size and conformational complexity of proteins and other large systems represent major challenges for today's methods of quantum chemistry. This thesis is centered around the development of new computational tools to gain molecular-level insight into electronic transitions in such systems. 2. Models and biomarkers of motor and neuropsychiatric complications in Parkinson’s disease
Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterised by typicalmotor symptoms that are caused by severe dopamine depletion in the cortico-basalganglia network. Parkinsonian motor symptoms are improved by dopaminergicmedications, the most effective being the dopamine precursor L-DOPA. LÄS MER
3. Examining neurobehavioral effects of chemosensory exposure to local irritants using event related potentials
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine whether unpleasant odors disturb cognitive task performance. At first glance, it seems intuitive that for example the smell of fire smoke would immediately interrupt my current writing at the computer. LÄS MER
4. Model Vertices Beyond the GW Approximation
Sammanfattning : We study the effects of local vertex corrections to the self energy of the electron gas. We find that a vertex derived from time-dependent density-functional theory can give accurate self energies without including the explicit time dependence of the exchange-correlation potential provided, however, that a proper decay at large momentum transfer (large q) is built into the vertex function. 5. Child welfare and professionalization
Sammanfattning : This study deals with the qualities of professionalization of public child welfare. Its relationto general social policy is emphasized. The potentials of welfarism are explored as a part ofthe study of crisis of legitimacy and rationality prevalent in welfare systems. LÄS MER
