  1. 1. Living in a Variable Environment : Reproductive Decisions in Wild Bird Populations

    Författare :Mårten B. Hjernquist; Lars Gustafsson; Marcel Visser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolutionary ecology; competition; sex allocation; paternity; EPP; inadvertent social information; migration; breeding density; territory quality; territory availability; great tit; blue tit; Ficedula albicollis; Biology; Biologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In nature, environments are often variable and heterogeneous influencing ecological and evolutionary processes. This thesis focus on how animals interact with their environment and how that affects the reproductive decisions they make. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Living with physical disability : experiences of the rehabilitation process, occupations and participation in everyday life

    Författare :Maria Larsson Lund; Ulla Sonn; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :disabled persons; activities of daily living; occupations; social environment; social support; disability evaluation; rehabilitation; occupational therapy; patient participation; patient-centred care; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : A comprehensive understanding is lacking of the experiences persons with acquired physical disabilities have of changes in their engagement in occupations and of the conditions influencing these experiences Furthermore, little is known about the experiences these people have of the rehabilitation process and whether the rehabilitation services satisfy their needs. Access to such knowledge would significantly add to the ability to design rehabilitation services intended to enhance participation in everyday life. LÄS MER

  3. 3. “Life is for living” : exploring thriving for older people living in nursing homes

    Författare :Rebecca Baxter; David Edvardsson; Hugo Lövheim; Anders Sköldunger; Sabine Björk; Lisbeth Fagerström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thriving; well-being; nursing home; older people; nursing; phenomenological hermeneutics; psychometric evaluation; cross-sectional; longitudinal; personcentred care; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Demand for formal care in nursing homes has steadily increased in recent decades, prompting calls for exploration of health-promoting and salutogenic concepts that support people not only to survive in older age, but to thrive. The concept of thriving has been described as a holistic experience of place-related well-being resulting from interactions between the person and their lived-environment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Living in a predation matrix : Studies on fish and their prey in a Baltic Sea coastal area

    Författare :Ida Ahlbeck; Sture Hansson; Hannu Lehtonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diet analysis methods; Sander lucioperca; behaviour; rearing environment; diel vertical migration; Acartia spp.; Eurytemora affinis; Perca fluviatilis; stable isotopes; body condition; sedentarity; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis was written within the framework of a biomanipulation project where young-of-the-year (YOY) pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) were stocked to a Baltic Sea bay to improve water quality through a top-down trophic cascade. The aim of my doctorial studies was however focused on a broader ecological question, namely predation (the main driving force in a biomanipulation). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Trees and the environment : Possibilities and challenges in tree-ring research across spatial and temporal scales based on case studies in Sweden

    Författare :Eva Rocha; Steffen Holzkämper; Björn Gunnarson; Anders Moberg; Martin De Luis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tree rings; Sweden; climate variability; environmental monitoring; ring width; maximum latewood density; stem radial increment; ED-XRF; light rings; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The need to understand and quantify the magnitude and frequency of past and current environmental changes increased the demand for high-resolution proxy data across spatial and temporal scales. Due to their long lifespan and global distribution, trees provide a unique and continuous record of environmental variability. LÄS MER
