  1. 1. Living in a Variable Environment Reproductive Decisions in Wild Bird Populations

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Mårten B. Hjernquist; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolutionary ecology; competition; sex allocation; paternity; EPP; inadvertent social information; migration; breeding density; territory quality; territory availability; great tit; blue tit; Ficedula albicollis; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In nature, environments are often variable and heterogeneous influencing ecological and evolutionary processes. This thesis focus on how animals interact with their environment and how that affects the reproductive decisions they make. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Living with physical disability experiences of the rehabilitation process, occupations and participation in everyday life

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Maria Larsson Lund; Umeå universitet.; [2004]
    Nyckelord :Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin; disabled persons; activities of daily living; occupations; social environment; social support; disability evaluation; rehabilitation; occupational therapy; patient participation; patient-centred care;

    Sammanfattning : A comprehensive understanding is lacking of the experiences persons with acquired physical disabilities have of changes in their engagement in occupations and of the conditions influencing these experiences Furthermore, little is known about the experiences these people have of the rehabilitation process and whether the rehabilitation services satisfy their needs. Access to such knowledge would significantly add to the ability to design rehabilitation services intended to enhance participation in everyday life. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Living in a predation matrix Studies on fish and their prey in a Baltic Sea coastal area

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Systems Ecology, Stockholm University

    Författare :Ida Ahlbeck; Stockholms universitet.; [2012]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diet analysis methods; Sander lucioperca; behaviour; rearing environment; diel vertical migration; Acartia spp.; Eurytemora affinis; Perca fluviatilis; stable isotopes; body condition; sedentarity; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis was written within the framework of a biomanipulation project where young-of-the-year (YOY) pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) were stocked to a Baltic Sea bay to improve water quality through a top-down trophic cascade. The aim of my doctorial studies was however focused on a broader ecological question, namely predation (the main driving force in a biomanipulation). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Living on the edge effectiveness of buffer strips in protecting biodiversity on boreal riparian forests

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Systems Ecology, Stockholm University

    Författare :Kristoffer Hylander; Umeå universitet.; [2004]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; boreal forest; bryophyte; buffer strip; ecological boundary; edge effect; headwater stream; land snail; liverwort; moss; phytometer; riparian forest; substrate; terrestrial gastropod; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the ecological consequences of buffer strip retention on riparian and terrestrial biodiversity. Earlier studies on forest buffer strips have evaluated their effectiveness in relation to water quality and aquatic biota. However, forests along streams are species rich habitats for many organism groups. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Indoor Environment in Dwellings and Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) Longitudinal Studies

    Detta är en avhandling från Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Författare :Bo Sahlberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2012]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Indoor environment; sick building syndrome SBS ; dwelling; longitudinal cohort study; building dampness; mould; microbial volatile organic compounds MVOC ; biomarkers; asthma; risk factors; Arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : People spend most of their time indoors and mostly in the dwelling. It is therefore important to investigate associations between indoor exposure in dwellings and health. Symptoms that may be related to the indoor environment are sometimes referred to as the "sick building syndrome" (SBS). LÄS MER
