1. Liver regeneration : With reference to malnutrition and growth factors
Sammanfattning : The liver has a unique capacity to regenerate after damage, irrespective of cause. The regulatory mechanisms of this regeneration are not fully known. Liver regeneration· is associated with rapid growth and thereby increased demands for energy and synthesis of new compounds. LÄS MER
2. Colorectal Liver Metastases : Onco-surgical Strategies & Prognostic Factors
Sammanfattning : The management of patients with colorectal cancer with liver metastases has improved over the past decades. There have been significant developments in terms of surgery, local therapies, anesthesia and oncological treatment. Nevertheless, there is no consensus on what constitutes optimal treatment strategy. LÄS MER
3. Liver protein metabolism in man
Sammanfattning : Protein depletion is a determinant of clinical outcome in catabolic states. Consequently studies of protein metabolism are necessary to understand the underlying mechanisms. Since the regulation of the synthesis and breakdown of proteins differs between tissues, it is preferable to study protein metabolism on the organ level. LÄS MER
4. Rat liver porin : purification, characterization and biogenesis of a channelforming outer mitochondiral membrane protein
Sammanfattning : The outer mitochondrial membrane has the unique property of being freely permeable to small water soluble substrate molecules. The molecular basis for this biologically important property has been investigated. LÄS MER
5. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain.
