16. The assembly and secretion of ApoB containing lipoproteins
Sammanfattning : Increased levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood are important risk factors for the development of premature atherosclerosis and its complications such as coronary-heart diseases, stroke and peripheral vascular diseases. These diseases are the major causes of death in Europe, USA and part of Asia. LÄS MER
17. Biophysical Studies of Apolipoprotein A-IM and a Partitioning study
Sammanfattning : The major part of this thesis deals with the similarities and differences in some biophysical properties of apolipoprotein A-I (apo A-I) and the molecular variant apolipoprotein A-IMilano (apo A-IM), and the influence on lipid binding. A model compound partitioning study has also been performed. LÄS MER
18. Low-Density Lipoprotein Oxidation and Renal Dysfunction : New Markers of Poor Prognosis in Patients with Unstable Coronary Artery Disease
Sammanfattning : In patients with unstable coronary artery disease (CAD) biochemical markers are emerging as useful tools in clinical management. In this thesis we studied the use of markers of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation and renal function. LÄS MER
19. GH, IGF-1 and insulin in the regulation of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism
Sammanfattning : It is well known that growth hormone (GH) has profound effects on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) is believed to mediate some of the effects of GH via endocrine and paracrine mechanisms. Moreover, both GH and IGF-I are known to influence insulin secretion. 20. Serum lipoprotein(a) in relation to ischemic heart disease and associated risk factors
Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) consists of an LDL-like particle and the specific protein apo(a), which is very similar to plasminogen. Apo(a) contains repeated kringle structures and a serine protease domain, which cannot be activated by t-PA. Lp(a) is considered to be a predictor for atherosclerotic disease. LÄS MER
