16. Applications of in situ proximity ligation assays for cancer research and diagnostics
Sammanfattning : In the field of cancer research and diagnostics it is crucial to have reliable methods for detecting molecules involved in the disease. New and better methods for diagnostics, prognostics and drug delivery therefore remain a permanent aim. LÄS MER
17. GPCRs regulating catecholaminergic cell survival and function : focus on GPR37
Sammanfattning : Dysfunction and dysregulation of catecholaminergic signaling are major causes of many neurological and psychiatric disorders, including Parkinson’s disease (PD), schizophrenia, ADHD and drug addiction. Currently an incomplete understanding of the mechanisms regulating the function and survival of catecholaminergic neurons hinders the development of effective treatments. LÄS MER
18. Novel Roles of the Ack1 Kinase in Epithelial Biology
Sammanfattning : Epithelial homeostasis is maintained through integration of diverse signals that regulate cell fate. A strict control of such signals is required to prevent overproliferation and, ultimately, oncogenesis. In this thesis we identify novel roles of Activated Cdc42-associated kinase 1 (Ack1) in maintenance of epithelial homeostasis. LÄS MER
19. Toxicity and biological impact of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles : Focus on the vascular toxicity of ultra-small titanium dioxide nanoparticles
Sammanfattning : The application of nanoparticles (NPs) in different technologies has led to tremendous advancement in those fields. Moreover, there is growing interest in application of ultra-small NPs (USNPs) at 1-3 nm due to their distinct molecule like features. Parallel to these promises, there is a growing concern regarding their safety. LÄS MER
20. The Alzheimer’s disease related gamma-secretase complex : localization and novel interacting proteins
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is caused by synaptic and neuronal loss in the brain that eventually results in cognitive decline. Characteristic hallmarks of AD are senile plaques containing the amyloid beta-peptide (Abeta) and neurofibrillary tangles containing hyperphosphorylated tau protein. LÄS MER
