  1. 6. The effects of Nordic berries on cognition and brain function : Connections with gut microbiota composition and cardiometabolic risk markers

    Författare :Fang Huang; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nordic berries; cognition; brain function; gut microbiota; cardiometabolic function;

    Sammanfattning : An aging population is associated with an increased prevalence of cognitive decline and related diseases. Gradual cognitive decline is a natural feature of aging, but may also develop into a more severe loss of cognitive function, manifesting as mild cognitive impairment or severe cognitive disease. 2. 7. Long-term effects of nitrogen (N) additions on boreal forest

    Författare :Fredrik From; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis aim to increase our understanding of the long-term effects of anthropogenic nitrogen (N) input via fertilization or atmospheric N deposition on tree growth and forest understory in boreal forest. Firstly, I studied the effects of low annual N addition simulating atmospheric N deposition on tree growth and variables linked to site fertility in two different forest ecosystems, i. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and vegetation in the Fennoscandian tundra

    Författare :Jonas Dahlgren; Lauri Oksanen; Johan Olofsson; John Terborgh; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gray-sided voles; tundra vegetation; trophic cascades; plant-herbivore interactions; bilberry; plant communities; herbivory; plant resistance; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : I have, in this thesis, studied the interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and tundra vegetation, on islands in, and mainland sites close to the lake Iešjávri, in northern Norway. As isolated islands are virtually free of predation, I have been able to compare plant-herbivore interactions in the presence and absence of predators. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Cross-Processing Fish Co-Products with Plant Food Side Streams or Seaweeds Using the pH-Shift Method - a new sustainable route to functional food protein ingredients stable towards lipid oxidation

    Författare :Jingnan Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; valorization; pomaces; protein techno-functionality; press cakes; by-products; fish protein; fruit; natural antioxidants; lipid oxidation; berry; protein gels;

    Sammanfattning : The seafood value chain is highly inefficient as 50-60% of the fish weight end up as co-products in the filleting operation. Despite their abundance in high-quality proteins, fish co-products mainly go to low value products such as fodder. The pH-shift process, i.e. LÄS MER
