1. Topics in polynomial sequences defined by linear recurrences
Sammanfattning : This licentiate consists of two papers treating polynomial sequences defined by linear recurrences. In paper I, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the reality of all the zeros in a polynomial sequence {P_i} generated by a three-term recurrence relation P_i(x)+ Q_1(x)P_{i-1}(x) +Q_2(x) P_{i-2}(x)=0 with the standard initial conditions P_{0}(x)=1, P_{-1}(x)=0, where Q_1(x) and Q_2(x) are arbitrary real polynomials. 2. Polynomial Sequences Generated by Linear Recurrences : Location and Reality of Zeros
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we study the problem of location of the zeros of individual polynomials in sequences of polynomials generated by linear recurrence relations. In paper I, we establish the necessary and sufficient conditions that guarantee hyperbolicity of all the polynomials generated by a three-term recurrence of length 2, whose coefficients are arbitrary real polynomials. 3. Hypergeometric functions in several complex variables
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with hypergeometric functions in several complex variables and systems of partial differential equations of hypergeometric type. One of the main objects of study in the thesis is the so-called Horn system of equations: xiPi(θ)y(x) = Qi(θ)y(x), i = 1, ... LÄS MER
4. Misclassification Probabilities through Edgeworth-type Expansion for the Distribution of the Maximum Likelihood based Discriminant Function
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers misclassification probabilities via an Edgeworth-type expansion of the maximum likelihood based discriminant function. When deriving misclassification errors, first the expectation and variance in the population are assumed to be known where the variance is the same across populations and thereafter we consider the case where those parameters are unknown. 5. Contributions to linear discriminant analysis with applications to growth curves
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns contributions to linear discriminant analysis with applications to growth curves.Firstly, we present the linear discriminant function coefficients in a stochastic representation using random variables from the standard univariate distributions. LÄS MER
