11. Influence of Geometry on Drift Waves in Tokamaks and Stellarators
Sammanfattning : There is a general consensus that drift waves are responsible for a large amount of transport in fusion experiments and it is of importance to investigate their linear stability and nonlinear evolution. These instabilities have therefore been intensively investigated in tokamaks for the last few decades. LÄS MER
12. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift
Sammanfattning : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 13. Tidally generated internal waves
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the internal tide in the deep ocean, which is generated by the barotropic tide flowing over the bottom topography. The energy flux from the barotropic tide to the internal-wave field at the bottom is calculated using a method based on linear-wave theory and the traditional WKB approximation valid for a slowing varying vertical stratification. 14. Numerical studies of transtion in wall-bounded flows
Sammanfattning : Disturbances introduced in wall-bounded flows can grow and lead to transition from laminar to turbulent flow. In order to reduce losses or enhance mixing in energy systems, a fundamental understanding of the flow stability and transition mechanism is important. LÄS MER
15. The linear and nonlinear biomechanics of the middle ear
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the biomechanics of the human middle ear, that part of the auditory system which converts sound pressure waves in air to fluid pressure waves in the cochlea. The middle ear's mechanism is analysed in four papers, three main and one supporting; in the main papers the middle ear is treated as a multi-particle, multi-rigid body ensemble possessing a variable number of degrees of freedom depending upon the case being investigated.
