1. Essays on Wage and Price Formation in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Study IReal Wage Determination in the Swedish Engineering IndustryThis study uses the monopoly union model to examine the determination of real wages and in particular the effects of active labour market programmes (ALMPs) on real wages in the engineering industry. Quarterly data for the period 1970:1 to 1996:4 are used in a cointegration framework, utilising the Johansen's maximum likelihood procedure. LÄS MER
2. The diagnostic potential of the He I D3 spectral line in the solar atmosphere
Sammanfattning : The research question of my PhD is in a way a simple one: what can observations of the He I D3 line teach us about the solar chromosphere? This optical spectral line at 5876 Å is generally formed in the upper chromosphere, and is sensitive to the local magnetic field. The He I D3 line is also indirectly sensitive to heating of the transition region and corona, since it is resulting from a transition that occurs between levels in the triplet system of neutral helium. 3. Consensus formation in the Deffuant model
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with a mathematical model used in the context of social interaction in large groups, introduced by Deffuant et al. in 2000. Each individual holds an opinion and shares it with others in random pairwise encounters. LÄS MER
4. The role of ice in planet formation
Sammanfattning : As stars form, they are surrounded by a disc composed of gas, dust and ice – the protoplanetary disc, where solids grow from micrometre-sized dust to planets. Small dust grows readily by collisions. LÄS MER
5. Responding Model Membranes. Lipid Phase Behaviour, Domain Formation and Permeability
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the interplay between the lipid phase behaviour, domain formation and the permeability of bilayer membranes. An essential part of this work has been the understanding of the phase transitions and equilibrium properties of lipid bilayers. LÄS MER
