  1. 1. Tissue Microarrays for Analysis of Expression Patterns

    Författare :Cecilia Lindskog Bergström; Fredrik Pontén; Anna Asplund; Ari Ristimäki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue microarrays; Antibody-based proteomics; Immunohistochemistry; Biomarker discovery; Diabetes; Lung cancer; Influenza virus; Evolution; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are essential building blocks in every living cell, and since the complete human genome was sequenced in 2004, researchers have attempted to map the human proteome, which is the functional representation of the genome. One such initiative is the Human Protein Atlas programme (HPA), which generates monospecific antibodies towards all human proteins and uses these for high-throughput tissue profiling on tissue microarrays (TMAs). 2. 2. On tooth movements and associated tissue alterations related to edentulous areas and bone defects

    Författare :Birgitta Lindskog Stokland; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Orthodontics; periodontics; interdisciplinary treatment; infrabony pockets; edentulous areas; dimensional changes; elongation; continuous eruption; tipping;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to study orthodontic tooth movement in relation to edentulous areas and infrabony pockets as well as the physiological movement of teeth facing an edentulous area. A dog model was used in Studies I and II. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Tumor lipid status and the responses to therapy in neuroblastoma : with emphasis on treatment monitoring by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy

    Författare :Magnus Lindskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the aberrant lipid and phospholipid metabolism of neuroblastoma was exploited for tumor monitoring and as target of experimental therapy. Neuroblastoma is the most common and deadly solid tumor of childhood. Since neuroblastoma cells are highly proliferative, aberrantly regulated metabolic pathways would be expected. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Experimental and population-based studies on colorectal cancer - Thymidine phosphorylase as a potential biomarker

    Författare :Elinor Bexe-Lindskog; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; thymidine phosphorylase; chemotherapy; adjuvant; biological markers; prognosis; practice guidelines; radiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies, and the only reliable treatment option for cure is surgery. Method: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to analyze the gene expression of the enzyme thymidine phosphorylase (TP), which was related to prognostic factors (paper I, n=254), evaluated as a predictive factor (paper III, n=125), and assessed by change of treatment (paper II, n=28). 5. 5. Regulation of the vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype

    Författare :Henrik Lindskog; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; embryonic stem cells; vascular smooth muscle cell; smooth muscle cell; pericyte; phenotypic modulation; lipoma preferred partner; ectra-cellular matrix; zinc finger protein 148;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMC) are present in many internal organs such as the blood vessels and the gastrointestinal channel. Their main functions are to provide stability to the tissue and to provide contractile capability. SMC are not terminally differentiated but can switch between several phenotypes, which is also known as phenotypic modulation. LÄS MER
