  1. 11. Illumination in single cell optical microscopy studies - friend and foe

    Författare :Kristofer Bodvard; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; yeast; transcription factors; signalling; fluorescence microscopy; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; light-induced stress; phototoxicity; single cell imaging;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on how to use light as a biological stress factor in optical microscopy experiments and simultaneously use the illumination to image the spatial and temporal protein dynamics in single yeast cells. The stress responses to environmental changes other than light have been extensively investigated in budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, often using techniques based on population averages. 2. 12. High-resolution Imaging of Cleared and Expanded Kidney Tissue Samples

    Författare :David Unnersjö Jess; Hans Blom; Hjalmar Brismar; Lena Scott; Karlhans Endlich; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kidney; Renal Pathology; Microscopy; Super-resolution microscopy; Tissue expansion; Foot processes; Glomerular filtration; Podocytes; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is one of the most important and complex organs in the humanbody with the task of filtering hundreds of litres of blood daily. It is responsiblefor the salt and acid/base balance in the body, as well as secretinghormones important for red blood cell production and blood pressure regulation. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Association and Microstructure in Self-Assembling Catanionic Systems

    Författare :Eduardo Marques; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFG NMR self-diffusion; cryogenic-transmission electron microscopy; catanionic systems; gels; bile salts; polyelectrolytes; liquid crystals; vesicles; Surfactants; phase diagrams; light microscopy; Theoretical chemistry; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the phase behavior and phase structure in mixed surfactant-surfactant and surfactant-polymer systems, where the co-solutes have opposite charges (catanionic systems). The initial goal has been to investigate self-assembly aspects in mixtures of single-/double-chained surfactants and bile salt/double-chained surfactants, with the main focus on vesicle assembly in dilute regions. 4. 14. Dermal cell trafficking : from microscopy to microdialysis

    Författare :Florence Sjögren; Magnus Lindberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The term dermal cell trafficking has been used to describe the dynamic nature of cell movement in the dermis reflecting the skin's role as an immunological organ. A light microscopic experimental model for qualitative and quantitative counting of the dermal inflammatory cell infiltrate in allergic, acute irritant and cumulative irritant contact reactions has been developed In human studies use of microdialysis technique has enabled observation of biochemical events in the skin, in vivo over a period of time. 5. 15. Automated super-resolution microscopy for high-throughput imaging

    Författare :Xavier Casas Moreno; Ilaria Testa; Florian Jug; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RESOLFT; throughput; microscopy automation; nanoscopy; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Fluorescence microscopes enable the visualization of biological samples with high contrast by labeling specific structures with fluorescent molecules. However, the spatial resolution of widely used microscopy techniques, such as widefield and confocal microscopy, is limited by the size of a focused spot of light, which roughly corresponds to half the wavelength of the illumination.
