  1. 1. On the Diluent and Solvent Effects in Liquid-Liquid Extraction Systems based on Bis-triazine-bipyridine (BTBP) ligands

    Författare :Elin Löfström Engdahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solvent effects; Diluent effects; GANEX; Interfacial tension; Density;

    Sammanfattning : Used nuclear fuel is dangerous for mankind and her environment for a long time. If however, the minor actinides together with uranium and plutonium could be transmuted, i.e. transformed, into more shortlived or stable isotopes the volume of the waste could be significantly reduced together with a reduction in the radiotoxicity. Sammanfattning : Over the last few decades, computer simulation techniques have been established as an essential tool for understanding biochemical processes. This thesis deals mainly with the application of free energy calculations to ribosomal complexes and a cardiac ion channel. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Multiple Functions of Glutathione Transferases : A Study on Enzymatic Function, Regulatory Role and Distribution in Mouse and Man

    Författare :Maryam Edalat; Joseph De Pierre; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : To cope with various endogenous toxin and xenobiotics nature has equipped the organisms with a proper protection system. Glutathione transferases (GSTs) are important components of the cellular defense against oxidative stress. These proteins appear to be suited for different tasks. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Energy and Electron Transfer in Porphyrin-Based Donor--Bridge--Acceptor Systems

    Författare :Kristine Kilså; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron transfer; electronic coupling; donor--bridge--acceptor systems; quantum mechanical calculations; enhanced intersystem crossing; ligand and solvent effects; bridge mediation; energy transfer; porphyrin;

    Sammanfattning : The photophysical properties of supramolecular donor--bridge--acceptor systems have been investigated by spectroscopic and quantum mechanical methods. The systems consist of porphyrin donor and acceptor moieties linked by bridging chromophores of varying excitation energy, and are shown to be geometrically well-defined in terms of length and rotational conformation.
