6. Chronic lateral instability of the ankle joint : natural course, pathophysiology and steroradiographic evaluation of conservative and surgical treatment
Sammanfattning : Chronic lateral instability of the ankle (CLI), defined as frequent sprains and recurrent giving way, difficulty in walking and running on uneven surface, is often connected with pain and swollen ankles. It occurs in 10 to 20 percent after acute ankle injuries. LÄS MER
7. Musculoskeletal Development in Jawed Vertebrates : Gene function, cis-regulation, and 3D phenotypes in zebrafish
Sammanfattning : Vertebrate skeletons are an intricate framework of bony and cartilaginous structures that form through carefully orchestrated developmental processes, guided by interacting genetic pathways that regulate cellular differentiation, migration, and tissue morphogenesis. The specific timing and localisation of gene expression shapes the diverse array of skeletal elements, from the flexible cartilages of the embryonic stage to the hardened bones that provide structural support in adulthood, and the joints and connective tissues that articulate the musculoskeletal system. 8. Improvements, Validation and Adaptation of a Shoulder Model
Sammanfattning : A series of biomechanical investigations aimed at contributing to the understanding of shoulder function and improvements of a computer based shoulder model is presented. In the thesis the structure of shoulder models is revised. LÄS MER
9. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction
Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER
